I tried to correct the tags, but your pics aren´t working, I guess because you linked to the photostream and not to the individual pics.

front visor support plate... scribed some lines to help at a later stage when removing material in the casts for the tinted visor

IMG_3016.jpg

glued in place

IMG_3017.jpg

remaking the ear recesses

IMG_3018.jpg

added a small 2 mm piece of styrene at the back to make the plate angled slightly.. which will in-turn make the ear pucks angle like the real helmet

cleaning up the base

IMG_3021.jpg

visor lower lip glued in place

IMG_3022.jpg

Tron light matrix layout... I plan on making 16 helmets....

4X EL wire / matte black painted at a car body shop

4X tron- blue leds and burnished metal- most likely sprayed at a body shop also

4X chrome- 2 without leds- 2 with full led 32x8 matrix and arduino nano

4X raw casts

Im also having custom small metal coins made which will be inset into the plastic of each helmet. these will have my custom logo and helmet number...

Im studying product design at uni so i will probably make packaging for each also..looking at making a high quality almost display case box in a pyramid shape...

i couldn't be bothered with the helmet the other night so i decided to make the perfect glove plates...

3873939654_39bab1ee7d.jpg

IMG_3058.jpg

spent around 3 hours collating images of the newer style gloves and making illustrator files.. i then printed out the file and mounted on 1 mm styrene.. which i proceeded to cut out and shape with wet and dry paper... I never really had much of a plan as to how i was going to cut make the plates but all good things start with styrene...

IMG_3059.jpg

HERE IS MY REVOLUTIONARY MODELING TECHNIQUE;

IMG_3062.jpg

- Place a piece of paper down on a flat surface

- add risers.. in this case i wanted 5 mm thick

IMG_3063.jpg

- Add a blob of bondo

IMG_3064.jpg

- and another sheet of paper

IMG_3065.jpg

- place a rigid piece of material on top and compress

IMG_3066.jpg

- once compressed leave until the filler starts to set... you can use the excess on your mixing pad to check if it has startred to set..

- when the filler starts to set it becomes like rubber... you can peel away the two sheets of paper to be left with a 5mm rubber sheet of bondo which can be cut and shaped within reason.

- I used my styrene templates to cut the filler to the rough shape

- i then pushed it against a curved surface and rapped with tape to hold it in place.

- Leave for 10 minutes and it will set to the forn of the srface youy taped it to.

Thanks. I think you may be the only person to read this thread haha. Hopefully this build it will be fast paced as i have absolutely nothing to do all summer ;)

Student Life... cant beat it lol

Enjoy it while you can. You'll really appreciate it once you have a full time job. I struggle just to find enough time to visit this site, let alone build my own stuff.

Fantastic build! I can't wait to see more...and at the rate you're posting, you probably just posted even MORE updates since I started this reply. :p

Keep up the awesome work! My mind has been blown.
