scary times ahead... never done this before :/

first coat seemed to go well.. apart for making far far far far far too much silicone.. no need to worry though... i used this to make my keys and hope it would be the last...

i then filled the ears with thickened silicone

keys applied with thickened silicone as volpin suggested

also found an error in smooth-ons quick instructions..

Do you mean the yellow paint on the helmet? if so - Its simply a automotive filler primer. was great on the rear of the helmet as it builds up very quickly and can be sanded almost like filler.

removing this clay was an absolute nightmare.. it was so so sticky and took abot 2 hours to remove. think it may have just been to hot so it was really sticky.. who knows :S

added a small fire wire makers logo

hope this comes out well

covered the back in clingfilm to stop it getting covered in silicone again

masked of helmet and applied smooth-on wax

first coat on second half

thickened silicone

bit of a nightmare but ah well

And thats where i am as of ten minutes ago.

The funny bit is... im not joking when i say this might not fit :S iv measured and measured, and it is going to be close... only time will tell

I am very impressed. What will you be asking for a cast? Are you only doing fiberflass casts or will you also be doing polyurethane casts?

Hey, cheers for your comments

yeah i should be selling both fiberglass and smoothcast casts for around £200/$300

This will include the helmet, earpucks and a laser cut visor.... if i can get a technique for forming and dying the visors i will but at present i haven't tried.

As for electronics, i have designed an inner matrix(8x31 5mm leds) which should fit but i haven really hat the time to check if it will fit in reality..

The Volpin-esque techniques were flowing like water

mash and gravy anyone?

what an absolute nightmare this was. mixed far to much plasti paste, mixed for far to long the took to long to apply.. using a glove and rubbing alcohol really really helps smooth the stuff out tho

overall Im happy, some bad bits but its my first time using silicone or making a mold.

Me wearing my first pull. Im 6.2 and i think it fits really well, at first i thought it looked tiny, but after looking at pictures of the real deal i think i scaled it almost perfectly

still have ear puck to make

Beautiful job. Very clean molding too, I may have questions for you when I'm casting my Guy-Man next week. Also, I like the photo of the white helmet with the yellow something on it - it looks like a fried egg!

Your helmet came out excellent, you should feel very proud. I think you did a great job with the scale, and it should look even better with a nicer fitting jacket.

Kudos to you on the fantastic looking helmet good sir. :thumbsup

I'm glad to see someone with a Thomas-esque build wearing one of these. Thomas is slimmer and has a longer neck than Guy and it really contributes to the overall look, I've seen a couple of builds where there's like no neck at all. :lol

Maybe your kit should include some of these.

and place some instructions to the effect that those rings should be worn for some time until desired results are reached.

yeah should be making a run of these this month, hopefully in plenty time for people to get them chromed for halloween if they wish.

Those neck rings were the best ebay purchase i ever made.
