MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- pic heavy- One Year Later Pic End of Page 12

I thought everyone might enjoy some pics! I'd say I'm about 45% done, shooting for completion by March 1st. The body armor is made almost entirely from Cardboard, Craft foam, and duct tape. It isnt Pepakura, I've just been winging it as I go. I sculpted the helmet from Klean Klay and cast with rotational casting resin. If I had the resources that's how I would make the entire suit, but I don't, so I didn't.

Enjoy!

The ab pieces are all taped together, and I apologize for the cell phone pics, I've needed a new camera for a while.

Butofcourse

Here is a better picture of the way they're set up-

This first time around I used 5 LEDs per eye, and they're all above eye sockets pointing down, then there's a 45 degree reflective surface where I want the illumination. It took a lot of trial and error, but it's bright and thin, which is key because my plan is to automate the faceplate.

Re: Iron Man Mark IV- Craft Foam and Cardboard Build

You're using pepakura as templates though right? That certainly looks like pep pieces on the floor in your first pic.

Great work though. Love to see some higher res pics :)

Re: Iron Man Mark IV- Craft Foam and Cardboard Build

I thought about using tint and acrylic for the eyes so that there would be extra visibility, but I never tried it. Right now there's a slit under the lights, like most helmets.

And no, no pepakura in this one. When I'm finished I'll make a YouTube vid showing how I did it but it's all just trial and error with cardboard and craft foam at this point.

Re: Iron Man Mark IV- Craft Foam and Cardboard Build

I made the structure of the pieces out of cardboard for the bigger pieces, then I use craft foam for the joints. Then I just cover both in duct tape to give it a streamlined look. The whole ab section above is made out of craft foam for mobility.

Re: Iron Man Mark IV- Craft Foam and Cardboard Build

I dont like the helmet so much, but DEFINATELY like the Armor. Great Job. Any more pics?

Re: Iron Man Mark IV- Craft Foam and Cardboard Build

What exactly do you not like about it? Always hungry for constructive criticism.

I'll release more pictures as I make more progress. My plan so far is to construct it in the order you put it on, so right now I'm tackling the rest of the legs. After that I'll move above the torso.

EDIT: had a question about editing. Figured it out though.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- Craft Foam and Cardboard Build

Alright, I've gotten a majority of the work done on the base of the shoes and I thought I would share, including some pics of the process- Enjoy! :)

Once again, I apologize for the cell phone pictures

EDIT: Hopefully the pictures are visible now!

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- (UPDATED 2-20)

Thanks!

As soon as I get everything torso down complete, I'll post some more pics. So far with my crappy cell phone camera you're looking at the cream of the crop.

Re: MCL34N's Iron Man Mark IV- (UPDATED 2-20)

Loving the boots.

Looking to get my boots done after my helmet if I decide to do my own suit. You have actually inspired me a little to make mine haha

How did you scale them? Thats my biggest worry since the boots I'm using for the base are freaking mahoosive :p

The shoes underneath are very important to the scale. I see a lot of people use big bulky boots as a base, but the suit has very thin ankles so the smaller the better. My base shoes are fairly small, and after making all of the pieces I would say that all together they bridge on being too big. I just went to a thrift store and picked up these slip on shoes for about $12.
