Alright let's play catch up!
So arrows, I decided I didn't love them.
Here is photo of just her black arrows
So I removed my foam fletching. Sanded down the wooden dowel rods. Repainted them black and this time I added silver bands more like hers.. I used metallic silver nail polish that I already had lol. I taped off the sections with scotch tape. I was sitting at my desk at work multi tasking in between work I had to do. And then painted on the nice thin clean lines
I like them A Lot better! I ordered real black fletching that will be here Friday. I think one side might have a logo but I already have flat black spray paint and I'm alright with having to do that lol.
Update on the wings! This is what I've got so far. I've got one more feather (drying right now) that goes on the second layer I'm working on. Then next I'll start on the upper top coat of feather that kind of come out of her shoulders. The magnets worked really really well.
Ok so I've been looking for a good slide mechanism to attach the quiver and like hers I wanted to be removable. I looked for a saber clip like one of you suggested. But when I reached out to some one on Etsy who makes them he told me his was looks only non functional. But was awesome enough to direct me to this vhook or Dixie Cup Bracket.
Great!! I ordered it and it came in so if it was a full size costume it would probably be just fin but it's quite big for the room that I have available on my mini version. So I got the old man to Cut in for me! Little less than half the size.
So I've just finished painting it flat black and waiting in it to dry!
So that's where I'm at. I've definatly decided to go to the comic con so I've got deadline.
I've also stared to work on the body armor for my son and I. Don't know if I mentioned I've decided do go as one of the Mockingjays unit. But they wear these chest plates.
The top layer looks like leather and I actually have black garment leather but leather is a ton of work lol so I was trying to come up with an alternative... And I think I figured it out. I found a faux leather contact paper. I have a silhouette cameo. If you don't know what that is its a small home version of a vinyl plotter (cutter) I made a design in the silhouette designer studio as close as I could get to the image I looked at for the chest plate.
Loaded the contact paper and had the machine cut it. Turned out great!
Then I took it and put it on 2mm craft foam. Took an exacto knife and used it as a stencil.
Love it! I'm going to get a paint pen and just try paint the gray edges black.
So for the netting fabric that seems the be in the holes I could find a mesh fabric with large enough holes to purchase so I've ordered and foot ball practice jersey and I think the porthole size mesh will be perfect... Downside... Couldn't find gray! So I've ordered white. My plan is to water down a gray acrylic paint and paint the mesh. Dyeing is so hard to get the right shade and on top of that its 100% poly so talking about pain into the booty! My thought process is that it's on armor so I really don't need to worry too much about the color coming off on us since no body contact with it. But I ordered it online so it will be here soon and I can finish our armor too
Happy cute side note. We went to the Ohio renaissance Festival on Monday. We go ever year and usually my daughter gets henna tattoo. She was going through the books and was absolutely ecstatic when she saw the mocking jay symbol.
