After seeing TFA, then Rogue One, all I have is hope and preparation for disappointment with Episode 8. I just hope that everyone is right that they were just being cautious with TFA and will actually work on this one. TFA is like the lazy kid who does the bare minimum at his job to not get fired. Rogue One was the kid who is aiming for the top and does everything right.

Rogue one feels like the kid with the training wheels off but doesn't know how to get down the path on bike right.

At least TFA felt like star wars. if it where not for storm troopers in the streets for some parts in the beginning..

Rogue One was intended not to feel like the SW we know. That's the whole idea of the stand-alone movies. It's a free pass to go outside the guidelines of the trilogy movies.

I'm done referring to this as a standalone movie. How is it standalone? It connects to ANH more than any other film they have. They literally extended ANH by two hours.

It is of course part of the larger SW narrative, and doesn't stand alone in the sense that it directly ties to major plot points and characters from the OT/ANH, but it's standalone in the sense that the story of these specific characters begins and ends with this film. So it is and it isn't.

Quite possibly Spoilers- but mostly guesswork.

Its a given certainty that Lando will appear and its pretty much unthinkable that he wouldn't. Why?
Firstly, his friendship with Han means he MUST turn up for the funeral/memorial. And its quite likely its there he will meet Chewie , Leia and probably Finn (and he'll also possiby get reaquainted with the Falcon again given his history with the ship !!!!!).
And I'm guessing this is where another plot line will begin. Given he is Hans friend its quite probable that Han may have left a final request with him in the event of his death or that Leia recruits him back to help the resistance for a mission.
Whilst Lando may not be able to complete it by himself alone ,given his age, Chewie ,Finn and Poe in the Falcon would. Which would also nicely leave Rey with Luke long enough to explore their backstories for her training to continue uninterrupted (apart from that fight with Kylo and the knights of Ren!!!).
Given that both Han and Lando were both well known all round rogues, gamblers and smugglers I would bet there is a really strong connection to that "Casino" Planet.
Although the world has not been named yet its a fair chance that it might be Corellia , as that was Hans planet of origin. Interestingly its the origin of many well known space vessels that were crafted in the large orbital shipyards above the planet (including the Falcon and the Blockade Runner!!!) . Which would also kind of nicely tie in with the fact that many of the dock workers may need the rich gambling and drinking joints which we've seen pictured in Croatia and that the criminal gangs are there present on world to exploit it. Wasn't there a rumour that Benici Del Toro was a crime boss???? Might we also see Hutt again???
And that may also explain why we didn't see the much of the Imperial dockyards as promised for Rogue One. Its also the kind of shadey world and set up that Rian likes ,given his appreciation of Cowboy Beebop and Brick and Looper which he wrote. I would certainly love to see the place where the orbital shipyards are. Plus there are other planets close by within the Corellian system and its had such a rich history thats just not been very well explored within the films up until now.
It also brings up various possibilities that Han may have had an early "family" left there.Perhaps its that which Lando tasks Finn and co with finding , I could see Han wanting to leave something to an estranged daughter or wife. OR perhaps its that Lando needs help to fight the crime syndicate if its supported by First Order networks, so that he can get the rebuilding contracts for the Resistance fleet back underway.
Its also possible that if they re establish part of this Corellian backstory here in VIII they can then go back and explore it (somewhat like Rogue One) in the Han Solo standalone (and then reuse some of the sets!!!!).

All just educated guesswork on my part, but until we get more info (like a trailer ) who can tell?

I can see both sides of this argument.

I'd conclude Rouge 1 is simply not required viewing to tell the Skywalker story ( origional Trilogy Episodes 4,5,6).

R1 is really just an Expanded Universe story told on screen. And I'm lovin' it.

That would be great, and it would give Han a good presence in the film

See, I kinda thought Rogue One was the kid who eats his boogers in the corner that nobody wants to talk to. :lol

I was thinking that too. The entire film is derived from a few lines in the opening crawl of ANH. Without ANH, this movie wouldnt exist, its completely dependent on it. Good point, I totally agree.

For me, the empire, the Skywalkers and the deathstar are all the same story. 3 elements that composed Star Wars.

And rogue one is officially part of the same story (heck, there were even two Skywalkers in the movie)

When Disney calls this a "standalone" movie I think it's only to change our expectations. They're protecting themselves. The fact is, there's nothing standalone about this. It's built entirely on the plot of ANH. Disney wants their cake and they want to eat it too.

Now, when we finally get a Hondo ohnaka movie...THAT will be standalone

I never made much a stink about fonts. Unless I'm doing a replication, that is. On screen, the words are too small, and go by too fast for me to care.

Showcasing what's wrong with Rian Johnson's crawl he posted online. Because getting it right is not difficult, nor expensive.

Got to be honest – I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I still don't even really see - or care about - the difference. Which puts me in the camp with 99.9% of the rest of the audience watching these films.

And I'm not pointing at you but at fandom in general – all this bitching about how TFA slavishly copied the original films, didn't do anything new, didn't step out of the comfort zone – but now people are bitching because a font is not exactly the same as the one used in 1983. The filmmakers really can't win with this crowd and IMHO should not feel the need to try to.

I think "the last Jedi" means, like, the "previous" Jedi. like, "hey, who left the toilet seat up in here?" "I don't know, must have been the LAST Jedi..."
