To be honest I'm just a teensy bit worried about him fitting a laser cut, small Moon sized planet destroyer into his work area.....!!!! :eek

Plus just think of the amount of filler and sandpaper he'd need!:lol

The Death Star is a bit small and not much of a challenge after working those pesky Volvo Panels!

LOL I think we only need 200,000 signatures for there to be any official forward movement. But I'll do it!

With Trump in power should be no problems he's already talked about wanting to colonise the moon and if we market it as a "defense initiative" then..........

Hi Gang,

Time for the early morning update! Another weekend of "baby steps" but still forward progress! Enjoy!

Worked on these Volvo Panel Greeblies!










Silver!






Hard to tell in this photo but the paint and thinner DID NOT like each other at ALL! So weathering came to a screeching halt! I have to get new paint and thinner before doing anything!


I the scaled the new Shelf Greeblie to fit and laser cut a new one








These tine square bases were a bit small and had to be recut

A lonely greeblie sits on the shelf waiting...


Re-laser cut the small bases


Lots and lots and lots of primer and sanding






This is one of two... I still have to create another for Han's side


Putty


I then laser cut the new base it will sit on and then eventually mount to the shelf


I then had a helper with me work on drilling new holes, replacing screws and adding more greeblies and LED housing(s)






I laser cut these new LED panel housings


The backer plate - the 5mm holes is where the LED will fit






Samantha stopped by to help out!


Sanded down the housing


Samantha and I worked on getting the new housing mounted and trying out different configurations

A new Volvo panel greeblie was laser cut!


More on this cool little guy later!


During all of this I worked on the exposed corridor panel. I loved this guy but it just didn't fit in the space


So I went with this set up...


I love it! But it was just too big


Began to add more detail to the space


Eh... not a big fan of this design


Spacers and supports had to be laser cut




The spacer is "supposed" to keep the pipes from sagging too far but I need to mod with a support underneath








I then created this... I kinda like it


I designed and laser this smaller pipe clamp / holder




For visual interest the pipes will be mounted vertically


I'm not sure if they should be mounted in front of or behind all the horizontal pipes


Now we add some insulation to see if its coming together






More stray wiring added but FAR from finished!




And this is where we are!


Lots of baby steps... But lots of behind the scene work going on as well!

BEAUTIFUL! The vertical pipes are a nice touch. Maybe you can have some behind the horizontals that follow the curvature of the exterior. OH! Are there any exterior greeblies in that area of the corridor that one of those pipes can "lead to"?

I'm used to seeing pics of it without people in it, so I think I had lost a sense of how big this thing actually is. Seeing it in relation to a person reminds me of the amazing scale of this project.

Thanks so much! I was thinking that exact same thing but I think the insulation might get in the way or at least make it tough to see them... its a still a work in progress.

There are a few exterior greeblies on Chewie's side but I can't remember exactly where they are. Again, I was thinking the same thing. Great minds!

Hi R,

The size of the cockpit can be very deceiving when there are no physical bodies for scale. However, Samantha is so little (curse her high metabolism!) so it doesn't really count!

I'm glad to see you've finally found a use for some of that flexible instrument conduit I sent you. As a found item, it really fits with the whole Star Wars universe. It'll be a fun story to share if I ever get down there to see the cockpit! Everything is looking great!

Work continues ALL over the place... Shelf greeblies




I recut these button looking greeblies that will also join the shelf greeblie


They will go here

I then mounted the new cup greeblies

I then mounted the new Blue Realm panel lights to the standoff panel greeblie box






Going to be fun adding an LED to this guy!


I laser cut a new practice greeblie for one of the lower back wall panels... more on this guy later!




Those of you following Holy Wookie's Bunk Bed Build... I've been laser cutting some greeblies to help add to his adventures!


That's a lot of little Volvo Panels!










Back to the full scale! I added these MUCH NEEDED angles to the upper panels to keep them from falling when initially put into position




Testing the new multicolored LED greeblie


Two of the larger Volvo Dash Clusters got a shot of primer




Then black - there are two black clusters on Chewie's side of the Volvo Nose Panel


Sitting behind the cluster is this greeblie

I adhered the small rounded corner rectangles to the corridor panels




Work continues on the exposed panel


New pipe spacers with a support added to keep the pipes from bending way down

I added a chrome pin stripe to this 3 pipe support




As you all know I cut holes in the 15" extension panels (as seen in TFA when Rey pulls the access panel lid down)... I'm fooling around with different greeblies to add to include ones that I've made up. Not sure how this is going to turn out

Primer


I started work on the new NAV CHAIRS! We're hoping to have the frames cut this week!

I also redesigned the "Coin Slot" greeblie on the back wall to match the TFA version. I'm not sure if I got the scale correct. I like the way it turned out but I have to redo the base


The base seems a bit to high


I adhered all the different sized acrylic together


Very Odd Shape!






The greeblie mounts here - again, the base seem too tall


I took an old pinball machine spacer - lousy pics!


Cut the edges at an angle so the pieces fit better


Bad pics... sorry!


I sanded the edges to give more of a surface for the acrylic to adhere


Added the putty - tough to see


More putty


Now it's time to get of best part of the weekend! Let's temp mount the cockpit laser gun greeblie to the upper panels!


Adding some rigidity!


Cracks... UGH (gotta have at least one fail, right?)

Mounted... still needs paint and weathering


I also need to 3D print a VERY critical piece of the laser gun greeblie to finish it off! Coming soon




I think it's time...


Scott was a HUGE help in getting these panels into position! The small angles I added really helped!




This is the 1st time in a year the cockpit has been put back together - and with the new screen accurate panel!


Gotta fill that HUGE gap up top!

The cockpit is SO SOLID now!


Still lots of sanding and filling to do!


And this is where we are! Those upper panels make such a HUGE difference in her overall appearance!


Unfortunately, we found LOTS of loose wires, LEDs that popped out of place and we have / get to wire a few new additions to the build so some electrical work IS required before we can turn everything on. UGH... We're really anxious to see the cockpit lit once again!

Also, no interior work on the Volvo panels can happen until the exterior part of the nose and window have been painted and weathered!

On a scale of one to ten, your update is a ten (once again Sofa:cool) That cockpit looks the bomb and all of those greeblies makes it look sooo real!

Awesome! As much as I love the details, my eyes go a little crossed at all the little fiddly bits being worked on. So it's great to see the "big picture" stuff with it all assembled. And I was hoping you'd get to the nav chairs soon, so I'm excited about that too!
