I'm thinking brass over a black base coat that's been worn down. I'm thinking on experimenting with sponging some brass enamel on top of the black of my V2, use a paper towel to pick some of it up, and then go over that with some black ink to wear down its color.
 
I'm guessing that's just dust buildup between all the rings making that yellowish color? This view really point out the thickness difference between the real thing and the Starkiller rings, which are much thicker in the first run at least.

some hair spray and rare earth can simulate the dust in between the rings real good ;)
