I've been looking for a pair of accurate natural colored Converse All Stars for a 10th Doctor outfit... but they seem a little harder to find than the white. I managed to get a pair of white Cons locally for really cheap, so thought I'd try tea-dyeing them. This is how they started:
Step 1: Soak six tea bags in hot water for five minutes (more bags will give you a darker color):
Step 2: Remove the laces and submerge the shoes in the giant cup of tea and let soak for about an hour (I left these for closer to 90 min):
Step 3: Rinse and hang out to dry... the end result:
If you want a uniform dyeing, stir the mix more frequently. If you want a more uneven, distressed look, don't mix.
Hope this helps!
Kind regards,
Magnoli
