I was looking for a unique prop to make and came across this thread http://www.therpf.com/f40/lord-rings-two-towers-69322/ discussing the pipeweed barrel in TT. I thought it was a cool idea and started looking for barrels online (big $$$) but I found this mini barrel on ebay for a couple bucks, and decided to make a small version for my wife. This was to be for valentines day, and I started on the 13th (love pressure :lol)
The rings were falling off, so I got some black tacks and clipped them shorter with a fence plier. Drilled out the bands and wood, put a drop of super glue in each hole and gently tapped in the tacks. The whole barrel, inside and out, then got a sloppy coat of H2O based poly and set by the wood stove to dry for 2 hours. The bands and tacks were painted with gloss black rust-oleum (like) paint, without sanding the rust to keep the "old" texture.
The label was printed on a textured linen paper, I found some old white glue in my daughters art supplies that was real thick, so I "finger painted" it on the back of the label, and it worked great, even allowed for a little repositioning.
FYI it's filled with chocolates I know it's not SA but it was fun putting it together and turned out pretty good for a one day project. Plus my wife loved it!
A big thanks to members: PhoenixVader & Bilbo Baggins for creating the label, as well as "ItsThatGuy" for bring this idea up and the screen grabs in the above thread link :thumbsup Thanks for looking folks!
