New 10th Doctor Sonic Screwdriver Universal Remote

I live in New Zealand, and while not being on the official retailer list, this local website is advertising the sonic with a preorder option and expected release date of the 27th:
Tenth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver | at Mighty Ape NZ
Do you know anything about how this retailer is selling them if they are not on the list, and how accurate the date may or may not be?
If this is for real then it is a much better option for me than shipping from overseas.

Yes, this is for real and they're very nice people - we'd forgotten to add them to the retailer list on our website, but I've just updated it to include them. I believe they are collecting their first stock from Hong Kong in the next couple of days, so their release date of 27th October sounds perfectly reasonable.

There's no chance that we'll be delivering to anyone in North America (i.e. BBC America or BBC Canada) sooner than we deliver to ThinkGeek. They are easily our biggest customer anywhere in the world - they're extremely nice people to work with, and the existence of this product is almost entirely thanks to them - many months ago, when we told them we were thinking of making the product, they gave us an indication of their likely order quantity that was big enough for us to have confidence that this was going to be a commercially-viable product.

Cheers,

Richard

I was already going to buy from them, but here is another big reason to WANT to buy from them!

Thanks, Richard, that's great news, now I can preorder with peace of mind.
I really think you've been awesome answering all these annoying little questions we have!
Cheers.

Ah, many thanks for your patience and support. As you can imagine, we've been getting rather a lot of emails lately from impatient customers - whilst it's great that they're keen to receive the product, it's even nicer to receive such kind and thoughtful words from folks like you.
Great to hear behind the scenes of what is going on with all the remotes! Keep up the amazing work. I have seen all of the videos on the 10th and I am blown away with the result of the whole thing! Thanks for keeping us informed, Richard! One question though, any date on when BBC America is getting the sonic's and shipping them out to people that pre-ordered them? Thanks again and keep up the amazing work!

I hate to point this out, but is anyone noticing the direct correlation to the same question being asked over & over, & a low post count?

I think most people (like myself) are still waiting on something to actually post about, whether it's the shipping of the units or details we learn, or when people actually get theirs and post details for us to see. Right now I've got all the hi-res photos on my desktop along with the hi-res blueprint of the remote and I'm just waiting for them to go on sale at Thinkgeek, then there'll probably be more activity.

There's basically nothing left to say at this point except "gimme gimme gimme."

On a related subject, I actually had a sonic dream a couple of nights ago. I dreamed that I finally ordered and received one only to discover in-hand that it was made out of really cheap Chinese knock-off type plastic and the "aluminum" was merely vacuum metalizing. In addition, the faux-metal parts had a big alligator skin crackle pattern stamped in them and the 'cells' of the 'skin' pattern were anodized blue. I was very upset and sent photos back and forth with Richard via email, demanding an explanation for why I hadn't noticed it was designed that way before I bought it. :lol

Dream-Richard then patiently explained that the defects in design were because I'm left-handed, and the sonic was designed for right-handed people only. (?!) They wanted to make a left-handed version, of course, but didn't have the budget. If I wanted to to seem like the sonic I saw in the photos, I'd have to operate it with my right hand. So of course I did, and the by that point the much larger and by now box-shaped sonic screwdriver (??????!!!) had sprouted a couple of black flanges on the left side that fit my right hand's fingers perfectly. Crisis averted, I was all very pleased and could finally operate the sound FX.

The point is, it was a weird f@#^$ing dream.

I love the smell of shipping notifications in the morning.
Firebox are now shipping, and I'm giddier than a small child at Christmas.

I emailed the BBC Store UK today since their last email said 3-5 days but there was no change in order status. Got this reply

BBC Store email said:
You may have received the below email message in regards to your recent BBC Shop order.

Good News! A limited quantity of the Doctor Who: Tenth Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver (wrc10813) have come into stock earlier than expected. Due to this we are able to ship your item to you early and you should receive it in the next 3 to 5 working days!

Unfortunately this was a system generated message which was sent in error. This item on your order is not available for shipping early at present and will ship as per the previous pre-order date of 31/10/13.

Please accept our apologies for any confusion this may have caused

Makes me wonder if they are holding onto their stock despite having some on hand. Bit disappointed but it's nothing to do with TheWandCompany, just the BBC Store.

Update, next reply from them as I asked them about the release date as they are still showing 31/10/13

[QUOTE="BBC Store email]We have not had a change in our release date which takes into account when we will have the item actually in stock to ship out to our customers. Please rest assured once the stock arrives at our warehouse your order will be despatched immediately.

We apologise for the mistaken email and any inconvenience caused.

I just got an email from BBC America about my order saying as of now it's back ordered. So it seems like they already started shipping them.

Yeah, I just got that email too, it was sad XD

We're very sorry, but the item listed below is still on back order. Once this item is re-stocked, your order will be shipped immediately to the shipping address specified on your original order form. If you would like to select alternate items or cancel this order, contact one of our customer service specialists at customerservice@bbcamericashop.com. Be sure to provide your Order number for identification purposes.

Mine was backordered shortly after I ordered it (a week or so), I just thought it was because I ordered it so far ahead. I hate to ask the same questions as everyone else, but any updates on the shipments to North America? While I am very excited, I am happy to wait on such an awesome product from such an awesome, customer friendly company.

well...I can see that I need to stay out of this thread to keep from going slap-off! I'm not a thread monitor, but DANG!

In case folks don't understand, we DON'T want any updates from Richard! He has pretty much stated that these things will ship to the US on the revised schedule, that he has went over several times. He'll post here if any more delays happen, but...THEY ARE NOT COMING ANY SOONER!!!!

Richard has been forthcoming about every aspect of this remote. He has been gracious in answering everyone's questions, to the point were he has apologized to complete strangers for things he has NO control over. He's even been questioned about if he was sure the product did this or that, because someone saw or heard something different on a YouTube video.

HE PROGRAMMED THE BLASTED THING!!!!

Seems to me that a few folks are doing an interweb search for this thing, finding this site because of this thread, then treating the thread like glorified Wand Co. customer service contact. Sounds harsh, even as I type this, but I wish the thread could be locked to anyone under a certain number of posts. If not, then there should be a new banner on the front page like the wall at the CIA...put a TARDIS on there very time a member gets banned or run off due to this ONE FREAKING OBJECT!!!

P.S...thanks again Richard...BTW...any updates?(y)lol

The first stock for ThinkGeek and BBC America left our factory yesterday and is being airfreighted to Chicago right now (so BBC America are definitely not shipping any sonics just yet). We're expecting the goods to land in Chicago on Saturday and we're asking for the customs clearance to be done on Sunday (which apparently costs us extra, but we don't want to lose another day). If there are no delays in customs, we'll be able to get the goods loaded onto trucks on Monday, and they should then arrive at ThinkGeek and BBC America's warehouses on Wednesday. I'll post again here if anything happens to screw up that plan. I'm afraid I've no idea how quickly either ThinkGeek or BBC America will turn around the stock and start shipping out the sonics to customers.

Hmmm... that's strange, and disappointing, as you say. We did talk through with them the idea of shipping out their first pre-orders early rather than waiting until the end of the month (which is what their website said from the start) - they seemed to think that it was a good idea, but it sounds like perhaps they changed their minds (after they sent out the emails, which is a really peculiar way to go about things). So far, they've received exactly the same quantity of stock from us as Firebox and Forbidden Planet have (in the two deliveries I mentioned before).

I love the smell of shipping notifications in the morning.

Firebox have shipped my sonic. This is proving to be a good week. So excited. :D

It's good to hear that Firebox are shipping out some more of their pre-orders. Hope you both enjoy your sonics!

Richard, sorry to bother you with questions, but at least this one is nothing to do with shipping!
When you buy a regular TVBGone, it occurs to me that there are a couple of different 'regions' that you choose from (i think there's a european one, american one etc.). Will this affect the operation of the sonic's 'tvbgone' feature at all seeing as there are no 'regions'?
Thanks
