GHOSTBUSTERS Pre-Release - film discussion only, no social commentary please!

It's true. The movies have always been about money but the people running studios used to have the talent to know what would do well and what wouldn't, now they're just cookie cutter suits from some business school that don't have any interest in if it does well or not because they've got a weird accounting system.

Difference being, BTTF and GB (as well as many other films) got made because they were seen as good ideas with money making potential. JJ Trek and the new GB film are made because they're seen as properties they can cash in on.

It's not a new phenomenon, but definitely a different kind of film making.

And that's all part of the same problem.

they get made without care because they know people will most likely see it no matter what....and the few that don't, or object about how it's made don't really matter to them in the long run. Hence, people get more used to medocre efforts... and the more people are thankful it's 'good enough' or 'close enough' or even just plane 'popcorn enough', because they know it could be much, much worse (thundercats are a human rock band!)

And the fact that even when they DO have a successful reboot, it'll just get rebooted after three films anyway to tell the same stories over again....it just adds on to the problem. People are already tired of the third spiderman reboot in ten years.

sigh
the more bays and JJS of the world, the less Batman : The Animated series and Justice League Unlimiteds we get.

No one wants to do it right the first time, or figure out how to keep it going in the long run. it's all throw away these days. hence, no one takes time and effort to put care into it.

star trek didn't need to be rebooted.....or to do a prequel series. all they had to do was keep on moving forward. TNG Rebooted right by moving forward and acknowledging the past. enterprise and jj destroyed all that.

Hollywood didn't get more lazy or greedy, it got more expensive.

Sequel/reboots cost the same money to produce as a new show. They cost the same to write. But they are less risky to sell.

In the 1970s Jaws or Star Wars or Blues Brothers were huge investments for the studios. Now they all look embarrassingly cheap for a big summer show today. We expect movies to be bigger, prettier, and more polished than ever. It takes more & unique marketing just to get through to us. All that stuff costs money.

More financial risk --> less creative risk.

You know....

I saw BvS because I like the characters. I thought,it couldn't possibly be as bad as they say. It was.

When I saw the big three, Wonderwoman, Batman and Superman on screen for the first time.. all I felt was a tinge of sadness. This was another batman we knew nothing about. this was a superman that shows no emotion that I didn't care for. this was a wonder woman that couldn't act and didn't look the part. Not that Fatman, err, Batman did either...

anyway, when I saw the FeigBusters trailer on the big screen....and in 3D no less, which didn't help it any...I've since moved passed the anger part, I think. I no longer feel ANY Emotion toward it. I just kind of felt defeated seeing it there all blown up. it's pretty clear at this point feig is a thing we can't discuss here. he's hijacked ghostbusters for a agenda, along with amy pascal. and any good will ghostbusters has had, either among the fanbase, or among the general public is pretty much ruined at this point.

I can't see fans flocking to buy this new ghostbusters merchandise either.

at this point, I just hope dan comes up with a new ghost busting idea......or sues pascal and feig for ruining this one. one would think it'd be a pretty cut and dry case of industrial sabotage.

i'm tired of hating on reboots. i want someone with some clear vision to get something right for once....is that too much to ask?
If you do go see this thing out of curiosity, pay to see another movie, and sneak in to feigbusters.

I'm still amazed at how little marketing this movie is getting but honestly I didn't see many for BvS either so I'm either missing them or they're not out there. You'd think cartoon network would be flooding their adult swim and teenager blocks of programming with ads for these movies. The sad thing is the lady who played Wonder Woman in a porn spoof looked more the part than official actress and the costume was better too.

Seriously? :lol

Dude, this likely isn't going to be good, but I'll bet it's probably on par with whatever Dan would have come up with.

Prediction:

The film will come out with mixed mediocre reviews. It'll do "okay" box office numbers and might get one sequel which will fizzle. Then it'll be forgotten and the franchise will lay dormant for another 20+ years. Detrimental to the overall brand? Ya, probably, but if it's as forgettable as it looks then it won't be the bullet you're making it out to be.

Let your hatred go. You'll be a much happier person. ;)

what're the five stages of grief ;o)

somethings i think hatred is all i have left with one bad franchise after another. it gets harder to remain optimistic!

I await the Knight Rider reboot with Justin Beiber as Michael Knight and some Rapper as the voice of KITT.

With Jackie Chan as devon Miles.

In before the posts of "at least wait till it comes out, Bieber might knock it out of the park: remember that one Batman movie people said wouldn't be good?"

And "according to sales figures you're wrong: people prefer the Prius to Trans Am "

You know it will be said. You know it will.

Flaps 'wings' with maniacal laughter..

I''''MMMM BAAATTMAAAN!'

fades to black ;o).

that thing looks no bigger than a dvd.
"Coinciding with the highly anticipated Ghostbusters reboot starring Kristin Wiig and Melissa McCarthy, this collectible kit includes a detailed mini replica of the ghost-debilitating proton pack and wand."

another great entry detailing all the true, and rumored facts about FeigBusters.

they should update the other video to show that raystantz on reddit had his account deleted.

With the boss being received badly, I wonder if this bombs, will mcarthy's fading star survive?

I don't know what it is about her, but ever since she really came on the scene with mike and molly, she came off as annoying.

less than three months to go before this disaster hits. never wanted time sped up so badly or a movie leak to happen ;o).

Of course it will. McCarthy has a genuine fan base and while it will wax and wane with the success of her films, she'll likely retain her core audience for a while. Plenty of stars have survived a box office bomb. Harrison Ford survived The Mosquito Coast and Sabrina. All McCarthy has to do is keep starring in profitable films and pleasing audiences. One bad film won't stop that.

If anything, Ghostbusters and whatever other movies she has in the pipeline will probably help her rebound. Now, if she has a STRING of flops, THAT could hurt her. But one film? Nah. Won't even really matter.

or she could be like adam sandler and just vanish from the spotlight, heh.

I was reading up on the boss..
Apparently it was rewritten 25 times and pitched for 7 years before someone bought into it. you'd think that'd be a clue ;o)

does anyone else find it odd they are making kids toys for this movie?
It's a paul feig movie.. his movies generally tend to be raunchy and more animal house and not designed for little bobby or suzie to quote
on the playground. I wouldn't take anyone older than 17 to go see one of his flicks.

I don't see toys for this thing flying off the shelf either

We can only hope her fame vanishes like her nutcase cousin Jenny, who made a career being raunchy too. What I like is seeing the folks who defended the movie turn around admit it looks really bad after seeing the trailer.
