1:1 Millennium Falcon Cockpit Replica - Group Build

Good weekend -you got quite a bit done. Wonderful to see everything getting reassembled.

Hey SB,

Thanks so much! It really nice seeing those panels back in place! Just two more to go!

Great work!

If you ever cosplay at a convention with this, Samantha could make a credible Princess Leia.

Thank, Lt W! I'll DEF let Samantha know! I wonder if she would be up for it? ;)

One of the best starts to the work week is browsing your thread to look at the weekend updates!

I like the new pipe arrangement! The reason I felt the old straight was a bit off is I believe an access panel would have to give access to something that would need occasional adjustment, and those boxes you put in look the part!

Thank you, my friend! I appreciate the kind words and continued support. You're correct! The exposed pipes needed some life added to them. I'm really looking forward to giving them some weathering!

Fantastic work!!! Totally loving the attention to detail...

Keep up the great work!

Hey CJ,

Thanks so much! There is SO MUCH more to come! The attention to detail is only going to get more intense when the canopy arrives! :)

I have a question about the cup greeblies (and others in the same vein):

Wouldn't it be easier to cut them from PVC tubing rather than laser-cutting and then glue together stacks of rings? It would save a lot of filling and sanding. I know one usually get the best and fastest results with the tools one know the best, and you are a master of the laser cutter, but still?

...oh, and I really love the laser cut guides you made to space out the tiles. It's the little details like that which keeps this thread so hugely inspirational for me!

Hey FF,

Your idea to use PVC for the cup greeblies is absolutely brilliant! I never even thought about that! I'm so used to creating everything with acrylic or MDF and using the "Flat Packing" method... you just handed me a "duh" moment! ;) The PVC would remove hours of design, prep, sanding and filling, sanding, filling, sanding, sanding, sanding! I'm ALMOST tempted to give the PVC a try! Looks like we have a path forward for Cockpit V2!

The laser cutter continues to amaze me! It's the single greatest purchase I've made! The templates allow me to never have to guess or eyeball where to place an LED, an acrylic tile or mount a greeblie. It takes all the guess work out of it - which in some cases takes the fun out of it. Cockpit V2 is going to see extensive use of the laser cutter especially when it comes to the main panels and 1"tiles and LEDs. If I wanted, and so long as the panel fits onto the laser cutter bed, I could even laser cut guide lines for all the pin stripes thus taking out all the measuring that is done prior to applying the pin stripe.

As always, thanks for the kind words and continued support! :)

Two quick suggestions
1 get Samantha to help more
And 2 the pipe section wire join it into the wire that comes down the back wall section make it look like they been spliced together so looks like bits being improvised like a lot of han and chewies repairs upgrades more.
Just use a scotch block or similar plug coupling so easy to pull apart put back together again also helps link the two together.

Hey LB,

1) I'll DEF see what I can do! ;)

2) Dang it... that is a GREAT IDEA! This is why I love you guys/gals! LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT! Consider it done!

The cockpit entrance wiring has only just started! As many of you know, our "Local" Scott designs/restores video games and pinball machines (the guy is amazing) so he has a TON of extra wiring harnesses and connectors laying around. One of these days we're going to spend an afternoon and find all the "cool" looking harnesses with their male/female connectors and get everything connected and in place. There are still a few greeblies on the entrance panels that need to be created that also include LEDs.

I wish I could take a tour of the full scale set and soak everything in!

Yep, those drafts are looking interesting to say the least...it's bound to keep changing or merging one drawing with another. Keep up the great work Sofa!!

Hey J,

Thanks! I posted some of the more interesting and oddly designed concepts. And you are absolutely correct, each drawing influences the next in one way or another. It would be great if we actually got to that point of the build!

As I mentioned, the primary influence for the engines have been simple cylinders. If we were to use real world items, much like most of the SW Universe is based, used water heaters would match that shape almost perfectly. Attach hoses, wiring harnesses and tons of greeblies to the sides and around the water tanks... I think we have a potential winner.

But... it's an organic idea. Its always evolving! :)

A HUGE THANK YOU to Samantha and Scott for their continued help and support over the weekend!

More to Follow so Stay Tuned!

Looking at this picture i wonder if the end of the plattform of the corridor must have an angle to match with the part at the corner of the corrdior in a kind of miter?

I think you need to post more pictures of Samantha working. Just my two cents. :D

Hey T,

She said she was really excited to get back to work on the project so let's hope we see more of her! :)

Hey T,

If I understand your comment, you're referring to the angle that veers off to the right (when looking at the cockpit through the front window) which then leads to the long corridor and then eventually the hull?

Cheers sofa ill keep an eye out for the joined cables and be like that was my idea and feel proud I've been able to have some sort of impact on it from over here in blighty.

Hey LB,

Sounds great! This idea will be ALL YOU! I just remembered I had some more pipes and other various greeblies I can add to the corridor panel! Stay tuned! :)

Yep, those exposed pipes are looking good and I'm sure that with the right amount of crud it's going to look ever better. I think that this space needs a lot more cables (either loose or attached to each others by the plastic ties. As for the Samantha, she's really looking great...er, I meant the cockpit is really looking great with Samantha in it...I mean...never mind:$

Hey J,

I still have a few more wires and conduit to add. I want to be I get the correct balance. But the weathering is really going to set it of and make it look the part!

Samantha is really excited to get back to work and get her hands dirty. We'll see more of her soon! :)

Don't thank us THANK YOU for all your hard work if you didn't do it we have nothing to look at.

Thanks, LB! Too kind!

Cool! Cause i should be moving to the Nashville area this April! I love volunteering for cool stuff;)

Hi Gang,

EDIT: Not sure what's going on... but I'm having a REALLY difficult time getting the images and the text to align. So bear with me!

Time for an early morning update! Unfortunately, I didn't have enough hands to help me work on some of the larger tasks that need doing but I did get a LOT of the little stuff out of the way! As i always say, forward progress is good progress!

I laser cut this hole template / back plate to mount the cup greeblies to the foot well panel

20170117_103620_zpsie15bcuq.jpg

I found out that a 4" PVC pipe is the near exact diam as the cup greeblies! ;)
20170121_072954_zpsfd5kawyj.jpg

Looks like a cool gun barrel
20170121_073006_zpslca9os77.jpg

20170121_073020_zpsjbx6woyf.jpg

I cut this main body arch piece - more on this later
20170121_114742_zpslqvbbhjm.jpg

I finished up these cup greeblies
20170121_114757_zpskks1cr4q.jpg

UGH... More filler required!
20170121_114806_zpsmpojm3hi.jpg

I adhered the acrylic piece to the top
20170121_193110_zpslikm1vcd.jpg

Then the side pieces were added

This is one of those greeblies where we just don't have enough info so I have to wing it! As long as you guys are ok with it? ;)
20170122_090225_zpsiymobgcb.jpg

Primer
20170122_101957_zpsr8d6xfbg.jpg

20170122_102013_zpslvvf6dxu.jpg

Paint! I didn't get a finished pic of these - more later!
20170122_141610_zps4ebk7hsu.jpg

Working with fellow RPFer Wavey, I created and laser cut this shelf greeblie based on images and dimensions he forwarded to me. Unfortunately, it wound up being too large for the shelf. I'll have to resize...
20170122_103208_zpsaqh8ubiy.jpg

Work continued on the Volvo Panel! I cut the last of the holes
20170121_134641_zpsd857o80p.jpg

20170121_134638_zps2vdnly4d.jpg

I then started to align and drill the mounting holes for the greeblies!
20170121_130203_zpspgscgti7.jpg

In place! So close to painting and adding greeblies! BUT... I might hold off until after the exterior weathering
20170121_164851_zpsowvfftwj.jpg

These Volvo panel greeblies are almost finished!
20170121_114842_zpsk4e9hsgm.jpg

20170121_114846_zpshazq9jr5.jpg

Lots of filler and sanding. I know... Filler? Sanding? I was shocked too!
20170121_155412_zpshngnvqj3.jpg

The TFA 360 Pano view has proved to be a source of a LOT of details for several greeblies!

20170121_191039_zpsy2m4wed8.jpg

Some odd shapes... but I love it!
20170121_191057_zpscdkkv6tt.jpg

I began to adhere these acrylic pieces together, sanded and filled

This stuff is AWESOME!
20170121_193144_zps3wmwsgeo.jpg

Primer and more filler
20170122_092259_zps3h10pyiw.jpg

EWE... Crinkle finish!
20170122_092309_zpsfijqxvcl.jpg

3 little flippers per panel
20170122_113843_zpszeqlwv6w.jpg

Lots of sanding and filling to do
20170122_113850_zpsdntibzdr.jpg

And of course primer
20170122_134259_zpssicqub4j.jpg

More filler... naturally
20170122_141617_zps1t8j72h1.jpg

20170122_141625_zpseg5fw0ok.jpg

I was able to get two of the four panels primered
20170122_161539_zps3wuvwtyi.jpg

Still needs black paint, silver paint then weathering! That's going to be fun!
20170122_161614_zpsgynemimu.jpg

20170122_161621_zpskoufn3uo.jpg

A few boxes of greeblies...
