Blade Runner 2049

Well,
I will need two things for this to work for me as long as they don't double down on stupid with Deckard as replicant.

A massively compelling reason WHY to portray Deckard again alive and old. Not just some damn cameo of hey new kid, let me show you some old tricks crap.
And same for WHY to go down the replicant road again, if that is indeed what this film's story will still be revolving around.
How can they even touch on what they accomplished in 1982 on the subject???? It's beyond elegant!
Perhaps it's just a segue way into something else?

If anything the concept of AI that is self aware is more relevant know then back in 1982. Westworld being the most recent example. It's a concept that is ripe for further exploration in the film that was really unique in how that was portrayed. As with all things like this, it's always best to allow them to create the story they want to tell and judge it accordingly. Crossing ones arms so early and saying no is a waste of energy. You liked R1. :)

I don't believe Deckard was a replicant because he never exhibited any of the special enhanced abilities of the replicants. In fact he got beat up by most of them at one point or another. Even when Roy Batty was 'shutting down' he was still able to play with Deckard like a cat with a mouse. If Deckard had suddenly turned into Neo in the third act I would consider it. Also Hampton Fancher saying definitively Deckard was not a replicant as well as Harrison Ford initially saying it as well, and even in Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep, Deckard is human but is at one point a android suspect.

What if you're a replicant who thinks he's human and didn't even know he had enhanced abilities?

Trailer looked cool, but...I'm getting seriously jaded about Hollywood pimping out my childhood for a quick romp with nostalgia. If I want to relive the old days, I can just watch Bladerunner...or Mad Max. Or Robocop. Or (with some effort to find the OOT) Star Wars. Or Wrath of Khan. Or Alien...I just...I HAVE all these movies already. I can just pop them in any old time I need that sweet nostalgia fix. A grouchy part of me wants to just stop watching new genre films. I could spend my whole life discovering awesome movies made pre-21st century I'm certain.

there is going to always be two camps... he's not a replicant, he's a replicant. i've read Ridley divulged that he was under his breath in an interview but it's not what the writer intended. i've read that he unicorn scene was leftover from the filming of 'Legend' and added to a dream sequence.

i don't care.

i'm guessing, Harrison is tracked down, and the cameo is it. he 'teaches' the new kid something and Ryan goes off on his own tracking for the rest of the movie. Deckard might mention Rachel but i don't expect she's around anymore.

i'm in this for the vibe... the total ambiance that i was moved with the Vangellis soundtrack watching a futuristic world. from the second 'thump' of that trailer, i got nostalgic all over again. i don't see this as double dipping. it's a story that some wanted and that includes Harrison. pass the torch, offer closure for those that would like to see more.

don't care about what happened after the original....................................... don't buy the ticket/dvd.

as said above, people crossing their arms before it's even been viewed, lol, *****, give it a chance to become a followup classic. it's got all the ingredients from what i can see/hear.

Kid, the trick is to let them beat the crap out of you and let them think they have the upper hand then BAM! get someone to shoot them, or walk in on you... or hope they get cocky and do some weird cartwheels at you from across the room.

And if all else fails, hope they decide to let you live and then die in front of you after they perform their poetry slam.

I think it's clear that he's not a replicant but, since the question first got posed, Ridley Scott thought he'd have fun and stir debate by making publicly ambiguous and coy statements about the matter just to keep the fires of controversy burning.

Didn't he go on record? or did I dream that.

DON'T discount my memories... I was just told by a friend that I dreamt an Alien in crucifix pose in Prometheus... said I was baked and imagined it.

WRONG.

Then I would say that's pretty crappy engineering.
Let's design a purpose-built replicant that can't easily apply its abilities.

But isn't that exactly what Rachael was? A replicant who didn't know she was a replicant. I realize she was an experiment but who's to say she was the only one.

I'm not saying I like the fact that Deckard could be a replicant I'm just wondering how a replicant programmed with human memories would act. Would they jump long distances or lift really heavy objects or would they not even try because their memories would stop them from even trying or inhibit them in some way?

Good grief... Replicants are purpose built. Their enhanced abilities and four year life span are specific to their models. If a Ford Escort has limited performance, does that mean ALL cars are limited in the same way?

Trailer looks good so far...we'll see for the next one...and Deckard is not a Rep! At the end of the first movie, he becomes the teacher (Rachael's) instead of the destroyer. He's redeemed of all of his previous sins. That's it...curtain call:behave

I've never understood why people argue about something which is deliberately ambiguous

:lol Gold! Do you have any old photos?

I'm wondering if Ford has a small part here. It's the only way imaginable i can think o the Gosling gets top billing of Ford.

This has poison written all over it....... Ryan Gosling :sick. as officer K and they going to call him K???

How original......no wait MIB already did it :lol

Surely the part requires someone gritty like ford in the original. Gosling is a poor mans brad pit pretty with no substance.

Someone like Oscar Issac would have been ideal
