PAN's BLACKBEARD BUILD

Been a while since i've been on here, but i look forward to a new challenge. And this challenge is Blackbeard from this years PAN movie. (Played by Hugh Jackman)

So far i've really only found a few reference pictures. Mostly from the trailer, and a single photo op. There appears to be a couple variations of the costume throughout the movie, but i'm going to start with this.

Still need a good reference shot of his boots and back. From the trailer stills, he has a variation of pants he wears, as well he wears a gentlemans style shoe with red socks.
I figured this is a good start and i can add more in as i find more.

The first and fun part is finding template for the knight armor. Anyone have any leads? i've found a couple, but nothing really standoutish.

for now i am planning on trying to do this build on sintra plastic. the raised portions i'm goign to try experimenting with heating up lines in the plastic and pushing out ridges from behind carefully. If that doesnt work, then i'll probably pvc glue sintra strips onto the plates and sand them down and smooth them out to look like the detail.

Here's some other stills that i got fromt he trailer. I'm hoping to get more, as i do want to try and have this done by the time the movie comes out. But i have enough to go on for the chest, shoulder, and arm guards.

so after not finding any good patterns, i'm pretty much having to wing it for armor. I am using 3mm sintra for the armor. For the details i am using PVC glue (the same stuff you use for your water pipes) and gluing them onto the form. Once i have all the details onto the armor, i will use my dremel and sand down the edges so theyre smoother and also dig out details where needed. (hence all the little silver lines all over the place. its either areas that i will be adding sintra, or digging down. Have also begun the pauldrons.

Good news. i'm making great progress. Bad news. They moved the movie out to October rather than June. Which means all the cons i was planning to have this for will be before the movie actually comes out :p. Next step is to blackwash the armor and then add silver highlights. i have the material for everything now, as best as i could get from the limited pics i have. now to just figure out the best way to shape the elbows.

Looks awesome! Would love to see the finished result! Keep us posted. Really looking forward to this movie.

Why thank you, i've actually made some more progress.

I found a fun silver metallic paint that i think gives it a good look. Inka Gold is the brand. I sealed with clear coat. I will probably do a blackwash just to dull the armor a tiny bit and bring out some more details.

The belt i found at local thrift store, and actually appears to be more of an instrument strap, as the ends of it are actually just little leather tabs with a hole in them. the buckle just helps adjust the sides. So i put a chicago screw into the armor and wrap the belt around the whole way and connect to that spot.

Also picked up a practice taichi sword that i will add onto to try and make it look like a rapier. since there are no con friendly practice rapiers.

(The helmet is not part of the costume... but i just had to)

This is looking so fantastic!! Thanks for keeping us updated! Really great work. How do you plan on doing his collar?
That... is a good question. we are still actually working on designing the jacket fully as its kinda multiple types of material and such. we will probably modifythe collar enough to pop up a little bit. i was thinking of hand stitching the feathers together in sort of a ring fashion onto some material so they are in the general shape, ad then sewing that in between the collar pieces so it is sorta sandwiched between another set of material.

If anyoen has any suggestions id be totally open to it.

Wow, life got away from me. Anyway, Got the costume finished in time for th emovie and salt lake comic con. Here's my completed pics. i need to dig up all my final progress pics.
