Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka; Pep and 3D print (Pic Heavy)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Nice pep work. You've managed to get some really detailed work done in a very short amount of time. Well done! Looking forward to watching it come together. Subbed!

Thank you very much for both your subscription and your words. I've actually been working on this project since late March. It's a slow project, but I graduated high school a few weeks ago so I have much more time to work.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Update!

Started working on the wings and got the top of one done. Dear lord this sucked to pep

1404201899622.4.jpg

I'm not to proud of how this part came out because of how small it was with little space to work. Came out warped on the edges

Now, I noticed that this part of the wings are missing the vent looking things that go horizontal inside the vertical part. I'm just going to ass them later since this par of th wings were a PAIN. You can see what I mean on the figure
1404201945464.5.jpg

Afterwards, I compared the size of it to the completed chest. I think theyre big enough actually

Thats all from me. Finishing the whole rest of the wing now

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Update!

Sorry for lack of them. Work has piled on the hours since I graduated High school and not attending college yet.

I finally finished the right wing. I have to tell ya, its a very tricky part to pep since its very narrow and the top half of the wing is entirely enclosed with no open ends. But I still got it done, and I'm very happy with the result. I cant wait to get started on the left one

I thought about putting PC fans in this part where Striker's exhaust ports are

Once that was done, I compared it to the chest, and how it would look, and I'm very happy with how it looked

Oh and this is how the chest is held together, in case you were wondering

Welp, that does it for this update! Next up is the left wing, then hopefully a test fit of the modified chest with the wings on. Its going to be so cool

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I took a break from making the left wing and decided to take a look back at the forearm and how I would make it work with the system I came up with to have the blades come out. I also tried on the had to see how it will work while rearing the forearm. I'm glad I did. I noticed that when open, the blades are so close to the top of the hand plate, it wouldnt open properly. So I'm going to need to raise it off the forearm a bit. Other than that, I think it looks great. I didnt put on the sheath covering or whatever you call that big forearm plate with the 3 prongs on the end of it. I also did this to see how it would look and I gotta admit, it looks bad ass

I'm going to cut out a spare piece of wood tomorrow to get started on the pulley and spring system for the blades. Mostly to take a break from pep. Pep really does wear down on you

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Well I got a real treat for you guys today. I took a crack at he chest again and tackled the problems of it not being wearable. I spent over 2 hours cutting, gluing, un-gluing, folding and clipping to get the chest to be both comfortable (kind of) to wear and looks good enough for me. I was about ready to scrap the chest completely, then it just happened. It fit perfectly and felt good enough to wear.

Also I got out my Striker helmet to see how it looked and its not bad.

Also I just did some little poses like Striker does in the movie
1405117776315.1.jpg
1405117794851.2.jpg

The only problem with the chest I have is the range of movement with my arms. I cant move them forward.
1405117926890.4.jpg

And this is what happens if I try
1405117934843.5.jpg

Overall, very pleased with it. And it leaves enough space within the arms for me to be able to make something that mimics the hydraulic muscle strands in its shoulders.
1405118070161.6.jpg

Also about the saucer parts of the shoulders, I think I'm going to have them completely independent from my arms and have it attached to the chest.

Enjoy these pictures, they were very hard to take ;)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Okay so I bought this 150 pack of 3mm led lights for all the little lights found around Striker's body, but I cant get them to work, and the ones I did get working, they ended up burning out. 2 AA burned them out, and a single AA doesnt work. Anyone know how I can power these without burning them out?

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Did you use a resistor with them?

Amazon sells LED's with the resistor already installed. I use a 9v with mine.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Okay I just realized that I dont have anymore resistors, so I dug some out form my old, old electronics kit and I found 100, 1000, 5.1K, 10K and 100K ohm resistors. I tried it with the 100 ohm resistor on and it worked! Thank you wakeboardjedi for the tip.
1405452577960.1.jpg

Now I just need to figure out how to hook up a long string of them. Striker Eureka has A LOT of individual lights all over its body. It has 6 on the wing, 4 on the shoulder, 4 on the forearm, well, you know, there is a lot of them. And thats just on the right side of the Jaeger not counting the shest, which uses a lot of red leds. Im going to have the white LED night lights a separate system. I need to invest in more resistors, and probably a soldering tool set. You can see how many lights there are here

Not a problem!

Cant wait to see the finished product. Looks great so far.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I have another question about wiring the LED's. I want to wire all of them to one power source, since having multiple batteries all over the suit will be a royal pain. Is there a limit to how many I can have wired together all at once? The amount is around 58 3mm LED lights. Here are the specs of the lights I copy and pasted from the page I bought them from. Is it possible to wire this many LED's from batteries? Would it need to be in series or parallel? Sorry, Im not an electronics expert
  • Total Length Size(Approx) : 33mm / 1.3";Forward Voltage : 2.0 - 2.2V;Max Continuous Forward Current : 20mA

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I know nothing about LEDs, but I hate to see this question go unanswered. RevChumley recently finished a full suit of Brainiac armor which had quite a few illuminated pieces (build thread). Perhaps take a look through their and see if anything works, or maybe drop him a PM and see if he has any advice.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Hey guys. Sorry for lack of updates. Personal stuff has gotten in the way of this build. Mostly because I met a very special somebody. Dont worry, I havent forgotten about you guys. I'll have a new update soon.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Ha! Dude, it's just a costume and we are just a bunch of anonymous makers following your progress on the internet. Personal life comes first, especially "special someones." ;)

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Alright, so I finally have some free time this weekend since I got a day off, and since im not with my new girlfriend, its time to hunker down and get some serious work done. Im going out shopping.

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

I have returned from shopping, and I got quite a haul. Resistors, a soldering station, a new hot glue gun, a new x-acto knife, gloves, brushes, fiberglass mat and 1 gal of resin for less than $100. Time to get to work!

Re: Building a Jaeger: Striker Eureka (Pic Heavy)

Okay so I didnt get as much work done on Striker as I wanted to, but I did make some progress on fiberglassing the forearm. I applied cloth on the inside of the forearm and its super strong now. I just need to touch up some spots the cloth missed, then lay some thin foam for comfort before shaping and getting ready for primer.

I have more stuff to share, but its really late when I posted this, so ill have more tomorrow :)
