Alright I redid the neckpiece. I mad neck strap longer like hers and I also noticed the collar was higher in the back on hers.

WOW!! You are doing a fantastic job! I sew too, so I can really appreciate what you are doing! And wow.
As soon as I started reading I was like how are you going to do her wings? {in other words unfortunately I have no clue how to help you
:( } But I can help with the quiver. It looks very similar to a "Kylo Ren" sabor holder/clip where a piece of metal {or whatever material } is attached to the quiver and slides into the channel on her back. Does that make sense?
My dad has a Kylo sabor with this rig. { this is how it attaches to his belt }
I can't wait to see the rest of your build!

What fabric did you end up using on the breastplate?

Black 420 Denier urethane coated nylon pack cloth (cordura)

Same family as the neck fabric except the weave is a lot smaller. And it's just water resistant not proof so the urethane coating is real thin not like the rubber sided on the neck fabric. I'm actually use it urethane coating out because it kinda gives it a plastic kevlar look that I like better :) it looks better in person than in the picture. Not sure if it's lighting or what lol

Alright my sons BDU shirt came and Mans XSmall fits me and swallowed him! So I ordered him a youth large in the black and gray urban camo and I will be attempting to dye it solid black... Wish me luck it's a Cotton Poly blend but it's like 55% cotton 45% poly so I have hope!!

Update I've been working on armor this weekend!! It's coming together beautifully I think!Armor isn't perfect but it was a great first piece and for a 9 year olds costume I think it kicks *****! Still have ways to go!! Knee, shin guards and top of boot along with wings, quiver and I'm doing fake arrows coming out of the quiver. They will be permanent in the quiver.

I finished the shoulders :) I did pictures as I went incase anyone wanted to see how I did them.

26b59bd4793ec49def1dc3c66c6b6641.jpg

After making the pattern price I traced it on w thick stiff piece of interfacing. It's the thickest I can get at my Joann's.

4bb2a116ccda7cda1c8ef57f72262ade.jpg

I sewed the top fabric on the interfacing and trimmed the excess off.

Then I took black piece of spandex right sides together and sewed around the edge EXEPT the bottom part that connects to the shoulder part. Sewing around the edges and NOT. Trimming close to the seam is how I got the piping look or the edges on black look with out having to put an edge on it.

Flip it inside out and I surge the raw edge to keep it nice looking. You can just straight stitch it as well.

Pin in place under the previous one and then top stitch close to the edge. Turned out great!! Can't wait to try it on her tomorrow!!!

Finished the shin guards, still need to do knee and the top of the boots. I also need to get more black belt elastic for the shin guards.

Haven't started on the arrows or the quiver just yet.

I have started to work on the wings but I still have a lot of work to go on these

Fun fact I'm using magnets just like the real one to attach the wings and be able to take them off and use the vest with out them as well.

Cool I been waiting to see how you were going to tackle the wings, looking great. :thumbsup
I am sure the Capital would approve!

Yeah I pretty much decided to do the feathers one at a time. I feel like I'll get them mixed up and get lost I don't. If I try to put it together and then spray it down with black plasti dip that it will be guncky in some areas and just difficult to get good even coverage. I'm also matte acrylic clear spray on top. I experimented with gloss acrylic and felt like it just showed flaws all over the pieces and the matte looked more military anyway.

I'm also using black E6000 glue in a syringe to put the wings in place and letting needles hold them in right spot till after they dry. I'm about to stray the rest of the feather I have done and gluing them in place because the pins are starting to get in my way for the next layer of feathers :)

I'm just very careful not to glue the pins to the wing base lol

The youth Large BDU came in today. I used half RIT DyeMore for synthetic fabrics and half RIT cotton dye. I added salt and vinegar lol and had it on the stove for an hour. Got decent color. If you did KNOW that I dyed the shirt I don't think you would guess it. It's air drying right now and tomorrow I'm going to have him try on the suit together. Once I finish the Katniss armor I'll make his armor.

I've started to make my arrows. A friend was like you can go arrows at Walmart for like $2. Well o want only tops to show and I want all solid black. Pretty sure walmarts will have color or words or both. So a pack of 12 wood dowel rods from hobby lobby $2 some black acrylic paint. 1 piece of black craft foam for fletching and pack of real nocks from eBay $3. Still worth getting solid black halves of arrows.

So no update pictures tonight. Still working on the wings right now. Didn't get very far like 4 more feathers plasti dipped. But I have a question for y'all. I've never been to Comi con. Seen pictures alway kinda wanted to go but I tend to find out about them after the fact. Cincinnati had one 24 or 25 of this month. And there's a costume contest. Do y'all think I'm alright candidate? I mean is my Mockingjay good enough to compete? Hoping to have her wings done this week :) and knee pads :)

Alright let's play catch up!

So arrows, I decided I didn't love them.
Here is photo of just her black arrows

So I removed my foam fletching. Sanded down the wooden dowel rods. Repainted them black and this time I added silver bands more like hers.. I used metallic silver nail polish that I already had lol. I taped off the sections with scotch tape. I was sitting at my desk at work multi tasking in between work I had to do. And then painted on the nice thin clean lines :)

I like them A Lot better! I ordered real black fletching that will be here Friday. I think one side might have a logo but I already have flat black spray paint and I'm alright with having to do that lol.

Update on the wings! This is what I've got so far. I've got one more feather (drying right now) that goes on the second layer I'm working on. Then next I'll start on the upper top coat of feather that kind of come out of her shoulders. The magnets worked really really well.

Ok so I've been looking for a good slide mechanism to attach the quiver and like hers I wanted to be removable. I looked for a saber clip like one of you suggested. But when I reached out to some one on Etsy who makes them he told me his was looks only non functional. But was awesome enough to direct me to this vhook or Dixie Cup Bracket.

Great!! I ordered it and it came in so if it was a full size costume it would probably be just fin but it's quite big for the room that I have available on my mini version. So I got the old man to Cut in for me! Little less than half the size.

3ae8e6c8ba892932f5cb95b2f5610e74.jpg

So I've just finished painting it flat black and waiting in it to dry!

So that's where I'm at. I've definatly decided to go to the comic con so I've got deadline.

I've also stared to work on the body armor for my son and I. Don't know if I mentioned I've decided do go as one of the Mockingjays unit. But they wear these chest plates.
1dd6efbdcde3a8fdad82ad9a6cc07741.jpg

The top layer looks like leather and I actually have black garment leather but leather is a ton of work lol so I was trying to come up with an alternative... And I think I figured it out. I found a faux leather contact paper. I have a silhouette cameo. If you don't know what that is its a small home version of a vinyl plotter (cutter) I made a design in the silhouette designer studio as close as I could get to the image I looked at for the chest plate.

Loaded the contact paper and had the machine cut it. Turned out great!
25626d7273c292f25028ca94a441fa0f.jpg

Then I took it and put it on 2mm craft foam. Took an exacto knife and used it as a stencil.
66c22652125aac03b893b9cac2c7e6ba.jpg

Love it! I'm going to get a paint pen and just try paint the gray edges black.

So for the netting fabric that seems the be in the holes I could find a mesh fabric with large enough holes to purchase so I've ordered and foot ball practice jersey and I think the porthole size mesh will be perfect... Downside... Couldn't find gray! So I've ordered white. My plan is to water down a gray acrylic paint and paint the mesh. Dyeing is so hard to get the right shade and on top of that its 100% poly so talking about pain into the booty! My thought process is that it's on armor so I really don't need to worry too much about the color coming off on us since no body contact with it. But I ordered it online so it will be here soon and I can finish our armor too :)

Happy cute side note. We went to the Ohio renaissance Festival on Monday. We go ever year and usually my daughter gets henna tattoo. She was going through the books and was absolutely ecstatic when she saw the mocking jay symbol.
