Westworld Man in Black LeMat

did you guys see this. they are saying these are screen used gun for the man in black but neither one is correct.
http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/01/18/hollywood-guns-shot-2017/

I saw an interview with Larry from ISS. The LeMat and the dressed up peacemaker were built for the show, but never/rarely used. Whoever wrote that article seems to know almost nothing about how hollywood armorers work, so I think it was the best he could do. I've run into that an awful lot in the gun community. It's a very seperate world.

very different world indeed...

Just a quick post & pic.
I was trying to recreate the look of brass on the hammer, and paints, Rub&Buff etc aren't going to stand the handling I'll inevitably put it through. There's a crude form of brass plating that involves heat, but too much of it for the pot metal.
So I tried just heating the brush then rubbing it onto the hammer whilst hot, and found two things out:
1) My brass brushes all seem to be steel with a brass coating, even ones labelled "brass brush".
2) The coating does kind of transfer, although it'll never be as bright and shiny as the real deal (as per the inset).
The pic is of mine in its current state, with the text erased from the barrel, stripping button removed and awaiting a dose of blue or black.

Anyone know how to fake the inky blue/purple heat staining?

I'm not sure what it's called, but the chemical used to blue/re-blue guns is commercially available. Might that be what you're looking for?

Thanks Noeland. Well, the effect's the thing and the quest continues.
Currently looking at alcohol inks. There are some very expensive gels available in the US that could possibly work, but they're out of the question due to price and location. I found a crafting-type page that said glass paints work on jewellery and apparently doesn't wear off. Sounds a bit doubtful.

Seems like someone burned pewter with a torch a few years back and got kind of color case hardened look.

I might be remembering that wrong though.

Again, thanks Noeland, but it's a bit risky given the low melting point of the metal.
Progress, however, may have been made.
Taking the lead from Soulinertia's marker pen technique, I wondered if ordinary writing ink would maybe dye the finish that the Birchwood Casey gun blue creates. So I put a few drops of both in a small jar and gave it a go by painting it on. The test subject was the lanyard loop removed some time ago.
Not much to report, on that one. Maybe a slight difference if you were looking for it.
So I tried the same thing with a blue permanent CD marker, applying the gun blue and whilst still wet, going over it with the removed refill from the pen for better coverage.
Take a look:

Definitely blue, like Superman's comic book hair. And shiny.
After wiping and handling, it seems to be permanent. This was the kind of hue I was after, just got to see about that brass brush transfer method now to get some more colour on it.

I finally took some beauty shots of a MIB holster and cartridge belt I made in the lead up to Halloween this year, so I thought I'd post them here.

There are a few details that are off:

First, the buckle. It actually wasn't until I saw the high rez shot in this thread that I realized it is more square instead of rounded. The one I used also has engraving on it and is too fancy.

Second (and this I noticed while building it, but I went ahead anyway) is the stitching on the 'billets' of the belt. The actual prop has the stitching going in a square, while I used the standard 'U' turnback. (it may not show in the pics)

I made the belt loops to fit .45 cal Colt cartridges, which is what, to my eyes at least, appear to be what they use in the show. The shell loops are fitted to a modern 20 ga., but left empty. (as they are in the smack-down scene in the church with Dolores at the end of Season 1, presumably to spare Mr. Harris' spine as he did his own stunts).

Both the holster and the belt were laser cut, which means it is an easy thing to make more, so PM me if you like. I've also put this up on my online store along with a Dolores holster. My first attempt at her 'possible pouch' was good enough for Halloween, but I need to take a second crack at before I feel comfortable posting any pics here. BTW, the real challenge for her belt is the buckle. Anyone seen it elsewhere? I'm thinking I'd have to waterjet cut it out of brass stock and etch the pitting into it somehow... but this ain't a Dolores thread, so here is my take at MIB's belt and holster:

I just ordered my knife from Crazy Crow Trading post (link above in thread) I'm excited! For Halloween I had to put a Jayne Cobb boye in a black sheath on this rig, lol.

Thanks for posting mrbungle, held off on a denix for just this reason. They are expensive here in Australia.

Looking forward to your review, my only concern is the lack of checkering on the grips. Would that be an easy fix?
I took an old Denix and took off the rammer & sight and gave it an old finish..like an old Bushrangers gun..look up the old tv show Johnny ringo , that had a cartridge con le matt ..

Well, 5 years after the post above, I was contacted through my web-site and commissioned to make a bespoke belt.

THe client was in contact with the show's armorer (Joey Dillon), who provided a wealth of photos that I used to refine my old files.

I gotta say, this was a fun way to revisit a project from the past.

Mr Dillon was asked before sharing his pictures below:
