Battle starship

Robert-san, Michael-san and DaddyfromNaboo-san,

Thank you very much!
Yes, I do. I am going to pour more passion to my model building in the idling time between house cleaning, cooking and washing the dishes.:lol:D:):(:cry

Watch out for that aluminum dust, Yuumi-san. Very bad stuff.

I've never seen anyone working with aluminum to build a display model. Looks ...magical. It will be interesting to see what this looks like after a coat of primer, cool as it looks "bare metal" right now.

EDIT: And I am jealous! I have to wait another 4 1/2 years before *I* can retire. Enjoy the extra time and breathe deeply of the results of a long life of work! (Yes, more model building... and other explorations too!)

Congratulations on your retirement yuumi-san ! , hoping you'll enjoy this next phase of life .
More importantly though , guessing we'll see more of your incredible/imaginative projects LOL !!!
Cheers Ged :)

All the best for your retirement Yummi and enjoy it (and go on enjoy us with your art!!!!) ;)

Congratulations Yuumi-san on reaching such a milestone. ...referencing you retirement, although it could apply to your awesome reconstruction of your ship as well. :D The additional detail is amazing to me.

Hi, Thanks for the kind advice.
I didn't know the hazard of this material.
I'm going to put a mask when I sand this thing for sure.
Yeah, I'm enjoying this bare metal look for now.

Actually, I do not yet realize that I do not have to go to work anymore. Looks like I am a natural born work bee.:facepalm

Hey, 4 and 1/2 years will be past in a blink of an eye.
I know it.

Congrats my man !

We are looking forward to many new projects !

Thank you Pcoz-san!

Thank you, gedmac66-san.

Congratulations on your retirement. :)

Also, the starship is looking amazing! That hangar deck has incredible detail.

Thank you very much!! Automaton-san.

All the best for your retirement Yummi and enjoy it (and go on enjoy us with your art!!!!) ;)

Thank you Philbourg-san and I am so happy to share my build with you!

Congratulations on retirement. Your starship is spectacular, I've never seen something like this built out of metal before!

Thank you very much for the kind words, Optimistic Geom-san.

Congratulations Yuumi-san on reaching such a milestone. ...referencing you retirement, although it could apply to your awesome reconstruction of your ship as well. :D The additional detail is amazing to me.

Thank you very much for the comment, Hagoth-san.
I'm happy that you like this restoration.

Ha, sounds like me. I'd rather the cooking part over the other two. I hate not having a dish washer.

I knew you are very capable not just for the model building. And the dish washer. Over a decade ago, I strongly recommended my wife to buy a dish washer for her help.
I knew it will be my help soon.;)

Yes, Tom-san, that's amazing!

Hello, Jedimichael-san. Nice to see you back on.
Actually I don't have my PC now. I'm using a Tablet but it not so good for me to use for this thread to post pics up.
Today, I'm using my daughters PC.

Here are some progress.

I was trying to make some radar dishes since yesterday.

I drilled some holes on a hard wooden plate (actually it is an old cutting board) with a drill like this.
I fixed this drill with a grinder many years ago for my first model.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160716_075916_zpsp59e1rlv.jpg

I made these smaller aluminum disk with a hole puncher for leather craft.
I cut out the larger one with ordinary scissors and trimmed it with router.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160716_084136_zpsrlvkrhhh.jpg

And I pressed it in the hole.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160716_075300_zpssutb48ot.jpg

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160716_075409_zpsniujxi8k.jpg

That was so easy.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160717_114018_zpsvxoeioi3.jpg

Then I had to make some radar receptor antenna somehow.
Several ideas had come up and I took this way.

I used a stripped copper lead wire.
Cut it in a appropriate length and stick them into a little hole on a wooden plate like this.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160717_114324_zpsntjw2hbz.jpg

And soldered the basement.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160717_114555_zps4jdafjhc.jpg

Pick up and trimmed.

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160717_115836_zps5w2ijaf1.jpg

That was easy and quick.

They are not Solar Cooker. Radars!

http://i569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/yuumi2891103/starship/P_20160717_142158_zpsuj3eukey.jpg

Put then on a fixture.

Maybe it will fit here.

This is all I can show you this time.
Bit boring but thanks for looking.

Have a happy weekend.

I'm just catching up on this fabulous build, I'm only a few posts down and I'm blown away with your imagination and skill you have a wonderful mind and very skilled hands, I'm going to keep reading and now I have subscribed

Thanks for the quick and well considered idea.
That was the new point of view of for me that you saying "Sometimes a “weak” section can create additional points of interest"
I thought it was very convicible view for the designing.

If I may add that landing gear pods, it will be relatively long twin housing with no nose gear houseing. See the second or third pic from the last, As yo see I designed the round port - it is supposed to be a paralell docking port for the sister ship - placed in a right middle of the entire length of the ship. And where the large square shape air tonnel is the engeneering section. How about the canoe pods placed right after the neck and laying beneath the port and reaching up to a few inches before the engeneering section?

May be I shoud put some mock-up and post the pics here in a couple of days.

Oh, one more thing.
It is an interesting coincident maybe. About the round antenna like AWACS you said. because If you see the pic of the early stage of this thread #72, you may find the large round hole in the middle of the hull. I was gonna put a large round or cylinderical structure in there. You may even find some domes and disks I made for that purpose in the corner of some pics on #81.

Again thank you very much.
I'm still catching up at the moment so if you have added landing gear pods then this post won't matter and please accept my apology BUT a ship this large in space with landing gear !! You have docking bays for smaller craft to transport to this mega build.
Would this ship really need to land anywhere and if it was real would this ship be built on a planet or built in space if you see a weak section in your build then its an opportunity to add that little bit of something special. Not that you need to as your builds are mind blowing / amazing and fantastic.

Adding my congratulations on your recent retirement. Enjoy this next phase of your life.

Thank you very much, Snow Builder-san.

Thank you very much for taking close look at my build, Bengrim09-san.

I thought that it may be interesting to think about the appropriate landing gear for this size of the star ship instead of fixing a model stand.:)
It's going to be another challenge if I choose to build it.
But for now, I haven't decided about the landing gear anyway. Each time I sit in front of my work bench, many ideas of design come and gone in my mind.
And for now, I may have to decide the design of the main engine for the aft section.

Please do not to hesitate to tell me your idea for me.
It often helped me getting out of stuck up many times in last 4 models I built.

Well, I get to the work shack and see what I can do for today.

Katsu, What type of tool do you use to cut alu sheets?
A large cutter? I mean: not a modeller tool?

So do you store all your past models on display in a room?
I'd like to see that if so.

I took the pics this morning.
Be my guest.

It's in a corner of our bedroom.

Katsu, What type of tool do you use to cut alu sheets?
A large cutter? I mean: not a modeller tool?

Here are some pics of the tools and technique.
Nothing special.

I usually use normal scissors which yo use for paper or something. It's good enough for the sheet up to 0.5 mm thick. 0.5 is strong enough for the model building.
I usually use 0.3 to 0.5 thick aluminum sheet.

When you use the scissors, the cut sheet will be bent or warped.
Put the sheet on the anvil and hit it lightly with the wooden stick or something.

Here is. Pretty simple.

When you cut away the straight line.
Use the standard cutter knife like this.

Run the knife twice or three along the ruler.

Then bend the cut line twice or tree.

Here you go.
You don't need the anvil this time.

Also, you can use a small circle saw for these cutting.

Stick the aluminum sheet on the plastic plate to get a clean cut.

If you want to bend it, use anvil and wooden stick.

When you bend the sheet.

Use anvil or edge of your work desk.

Hit it lightly with a wooden stick.

If you need a sharp corner angle, run the backside of the knife along the line. (not the backside of the sheet)

that's it.

This is a thing of beauty, Katsu-san.
Please don't paint it.

My heart is drifting between the both options now.
To be or not to be?:(:D

Thank you for looking.
Any of your questions will be welcome.

Love the display, very nice. Something to definitely cherish.
And all the metal bending looks like a lot of work. I would really be afraid to cut myself.
As for coloring it, well, the raw silver does look good. However, you can always take pics and then I could color it to your choice in photoshop to get an idea how color could look, without actually doing it on the model.

Wow, those are some amazing starships. Even better that they are your own designs

I love coming to this thread, everytime I do it just keeps getting better and better
