My Lifesize 1:1 Carrie Fisher ANH Princess Leia

So how strong is the grip of the hands? Im having to use a modified Rubies turd blaster on mine because the armature in the silicone hands is too weak to hold resin.

The paintwork on the face looks MUCH better! :thumbsup Some very light thinned blue/grey around the eyes and sides of the nose would make it pop even more. And I'd suggest a very light wash of dark grey/black inside the nostrils. These small touches will help sell the dimensionality a bit more.

So I watched some videos and read a few threads related to painting a bust like this, much respect to those of you have mastered this skill! This is my first ever attempt at painting a bust outside of a single flesh color. I decided to start slow with this, making subtle changes until I get a feel for what I'm doing.

I did a light scattered wash / blot of red / brown paint.

Then I did some light speckling.

Then I started washing / dabbing over that with watered down layers of flesh tone.

Several coats later and I installed the eyes and did a few minor touch-ups. The lighting sucked when I took these pics so it's hard to see, but there's definitely a subtle change which looks so much better in person compared to the one flesh tone color.

So once again, this is my first ever attempt at painting a bust like this. I think I was being overly cautious because I didn't want to mess it up and don't know what I'm doing just yet. But when I look at the previous photos compared to the head now, so much better. Thanks for all the great recommendations!

I have some tweaking to do still, hope to learn these techniques a little better. I have a Luke bust I need to do next so that'll be more practice!

WOW! Vast improvement! Great job!

The 24mm eyes look great. I would give the lacrimal caruncle (the pink bits on the inside of your eye) a wash of pink to differentiate it from the rest of the skin.

Once the gap is filled around the eyes, going in with some GE II Silicone Clear and making a waterline really helps add to the realism.

The paint work on the bust looks awesome. Makes her look much more alive. Having watched a lot of Darran Carnall's videos on youtube I noticed that he always darkened the skin a little all around the hair line, so it didn't have the sharp contrasting transition, and it looks much more natural. I always wondered why, when I painted, I couldn't get the transition to look right, but having watched those videos and seen what he does, I now know what I did wrong. It's not necessary to do, but I think it would make her look even more natural.

Awesome work.

Thanks guys! I'm definitely absorbing all these suggestions, I'm looking forward to learning how to improve in this area.

Thank you!

I haven't used these hands to hold anything, but I suspect it may be tough to hold a heavy resin blaster. These do have wires in them, but just not sure how they'll hold up.

If your figure is going to be wearing gloves, here's a mod I did on my Kylo Ren. I didn't modify the thumb because it wasn't necessary for this pose. But I did do it for my Stormtrooper and there were no problems holding a heavy blaster. I used a heavy gauge copper wire and some nylon spacers and topped them off rubber screw / nail / bolt caps. If you get a mannequin that has individual fingers, you can cut those up and replace them for the washers. If you use this heavy gauge wire and bend them into position, it holds very well.

I've made similar mods in the past but since Leia ANH doesn't wear gloves I opted for posable silicone hands. Just wondering if yours have a stronger wire armature than mine as mine have very thin wire in them :(

Oh, don't forget to add her freckles! I have a good reference picture somewhere that was used for mine.

So just about done with this, I painted the hands so they match the face. If you look at the video in post #39, at about 15 seconds in, you can see the before color. The pictures really don't do this figure justice, looks so much better in person. I have a few small tweaks with the robe, but I felt good enough to move her upstairs into the theater room.

Learned a lot with this build, good practice for the next one!
