Hiya peeps,
A first post here though long time lurking so hello everyone!
It had long been an idea of mine to attempt to build an ANH Stormtrooper helmet, always my favourite design from SW. The way the features carry a cold, heartless threat of menace makes them, for me at least, the pinacle of SW designs (and theres some stiff competition eh?)
First, huge prespect to Antlanthia for the daddy of all scatch ST builds, this really showed me what is possible - big respect!:

This first attempt would be a smaller prototype just to figure out what goes where and i decided to just do one half.
So, basic form made by slotting a front, side and top profile together:

Unfortunately i didnt take many pics of the faceplate structure (probably cos it was a mess of glue and card, but heres where i was a week later - you can see how i was building up the form:

At this stage its mostly wallpaper paste and tissues, moving on to wall filler (I did mix the paste and filler to make a modelling material, cant recall 100% but I think it worked well!)

Ears were tricky, Im just making it up as I go along!

Moved onto car filler, what a great modelling medium this is - rock hard, easy to sculpt and gives a great finish. By now Ive started shaping the lid a bit more:

By now, my wee TK is starting to look pretty mean!

Primed for paint:

Disaster! Well not quite - but finishing off the detailing was WAY harder than i thought it would be, extremely tricky business!

I was pretty much finished by now. I cut a strip from an old innertube for the brow trim, made some very dodgy mic tips with cardboard and the mesh that i had to hack from a tea strainer and green plastic from a bottle of pop for the lenses. Apologies for the quality of the pics, I am useless behind a camera!

And a crummy attemp to get some more contrasty pics:

So, over to you lot! Id like to hear what you think...some parts (noticeably the mic tip cavity) are pretty ropey, does anything else leap out at you as being a bit wonky?
On the whole im very happy with him and i love building stuff so it was great fun. I'll be having a stab at a full size "proper" one soon...
Huge thanks to you all for your expertise on these forums, and of course Atlanthia for his inspiring work! And if anyone here is related to starwarshelmets.com in any way, Im hugely grateful for your incredible work. Theres no way i could do this without it!
