Hasbro BMF = Aluminium Falcon - Update #6

Awesome work. I just got the Haynes Millennium Falcon owners workshop manual book (very cool read) on Amazon
and there's a picture in there of the blue colour scheme on the Stellar Envoy.

UPDATE #4

FINALLY CLOSED THE AL...
One problem.. after closing the BLOODY SMOKE MACHINE is not working anymore :cry and I do not have the guts to open it again to find the problem to fix.
So.. unfortunately It will not have the smoking effect.. I plan a Smoke Machine Version 2.0 for the DeAgo MF.

MB.

Hi MB,

First of all great work you did, the shiny new Alu-effect came out nicely.

Sorry to hear that the smoke machine did not work. I am playing with the idea of this as well in a different model and would love to know more about it and have a couple of questions if i may be so bold. ;)
What kind of smoke machine did you have? I was looking at some that they put into the miniature locamotives(Steam Engines), but until I get a chance to try it out, i am not 100% certain that it will produce enough smoke for my needs. Do you know what went wrong with yours? was the smoker defect or do you assume it was a wiring/power problem?

Did you test the smoker before putting it together? how did the effect look? I saw the little fan but did not look like you had any channels to direct the smoke to any certain outputs. Did you have any plans for doing this? On the falcon, my best guess for a place for smoke would be from the Strikes Back scene where Han was working on repairs on Hoth and something burns out on the upper side as Chewie turns the Engins on and a cloud of smoke came out... combined with mp3 sounds of the engine whirring, a small explosion (with a led for a light burst) and Han in the background yelling "Turn it off, Chewie, turn it off..." would be pretty cool... or did you have something else in mind for it?

Thanks for your input and looking forward to see more of your work.

Thanks for the likes and comments Guys!
I'm on a business trip so the final touches have to wait for a while.

I really like the build. The paint job is very stark (red isn't my favorite color anyway) but you did a really nice job with it (who cares what color I like!). I enjoyed watching this unfold, MB. I meant to post sooner...your shiny new Corellian idea gave me inspiration for my next Falcon build. I want to do a "stealth" version. Sharpen the lines, make the ship a bit more aerodynamic extend the cockpit nose for aerodynamic styling, finish it with a flat dark stealth gray paint using only red and blue lights. I will probably do a Revell kit for that.

All in all splendid work and thanks for sharing!

Lee
Hi Lee, Yes too "Starky" indeed lool, It was not intended like in my post #2 where I show an american jet aluminium/red paint, I just noticed the "Starky" thing when I was trying to explain to my son the colors I would use to paint the AF I said: "red like the Iron Man". Anyway, would be nice a painting theme Gold and Red!!! I would love it too!!! I know. I know.. you don't like red..haha!
I care what colour you like?

I'm glad that this my variation gave you inspiration to yours, Great Idea! I cant wait to see your SF (Stealth Falcon) building.

The black car bumper paint (from Halfords UK) I've used is a lovely color for a stealth version, its not Matte its not gloss. I loved this colour. If I was going to do a project like yours I surely would use this paint. But maybe you are looking for something more accurate?
I've decided to leave the bottom of my AF (Aluminum Falcon) in black only. I can take better shots when I get home if you like to?
Thanks again!

Hi Wolfy, Is the scheme similar to the blue scheme in my post #2?
I googled "blue colour scheme on the Stellar Envoy" and there are lots of variation, nice!
Thanks again!

Hi opal1970, Would love to help.
My version 1 of the smoke machine:
I've disassembled an E-cigarette (the cheap one, you can buy at dollar stores alike) I've found out how its works and got the part that works like an electrical resistance and "burn" the "oil" creating the vapor/smoke. I've experimented with baby oil and it works just fine, when its dries you just add a few drops of baby oil again and done, I've located it inside the fan and sealed the fan, there are 4 silicone tubes coming out of the fan which purposely would fill with smoke the landing "boxes" which I sealed creating a little of pressure but drilled small roles on the bottom of it from where I got the smoke coming out, It was working nicely, I've tested several times. Unfortunately I did not take pics nor recorded it before closing the two half of the hull
Probably it is a wiring broken problem... I have something else loose.. when I move the ship I can hear something moving inside.. who knows? I might open this thing again and fix both of them?

Version 2 of the smoke machine:
I'm thinking something like this:

The problem with this idea is when the e-cigarette got dry or the battery gone, so you have to think one system to replace used e-cigarettes with new ones..

Well, as I said, my idea for the smoke was to be used like when the ship is landed, in a few movies sequences its shows a lot of "CO2 extinguisher" spray coming out from the bottom of the MF when she is landed.

Your Idea to replicate that scene is insane! I love it, each part of it..and I surely will steal it..lol
As I said in my post #2, I plan to build I nice interactive touchscreen display to turn on/off lights/sounds and effects in my DeAgo MF.. your idea will match "awesomely"!

Hope its help you mate, I have no experience with miniature locomotives(Steam Engines), so i cant tell you how it works, but I remember to research about it and in my case building my own smoke machine was more practical than buy an expensive thing.

Hey be bold and fell free to ask questions, I will be glad to answer and I think everyone else in The RPF would too. Also, feed us up with your progress ;)

Thanks again guys!

Hey Master B,

Thanks, that helps a lot. I would have never in my life gotten the idea to use a e-cigarette... that's the drawback to being a nonsmoker I guess. ;) The steam engine smoke makers work on the same concept... it also uses oil to create the smoke. You build the smoker somewhere in your model and have a tube that goes to a hole on the surface somewhere where you can continue to add oil as needed. As I have not yet bought one to try it out, my only suspicion is that it will not produce as much smoke as I would like to have. At any rate, I still have time to try things out, that project is quite a way down the road before I get to it... among other models that were first in line, I have a galactica that is turning into a never ending story.

Oh yeah... I forgot all about those smoke exhausts in the landing scenes... that should look really cool. Glad you like my idea! Please, steal away. Just make sure to send me a link to the video. :)

Just food for thought, but one other thing that struck me as I was looking at your pics is how the MF might have looked fresh out of the factory. This is my personal opinion and not based on any film material, but the open panel areas and some of the pipeing on the surface do not look factory to me. I think I read somewhere that the MF had already belonged to more than one smuggler before it eventually fell into Lando's hands, and each had modified it in one way or another. In fact in first movie, Han says that he himself made a couple modifications. I read somewhere else that the engine (or parts of it) are actually too big and not meant for a ship of that size (which of course is why it is the fastest ship)... Soooooo, my humble conclusion is that some of the panels were removed to allow the installment of non-standard parts or to allow access for pipes/cables to bypass something. Kinda like how all the cars look like in the Mad Max movies.

Hi Again Opal,
I'm glad that my tip helped you out. Even if your project is awaiting for now... remember to post progress! ;)
I had a look at your Galactica... man... you are one those who likes to work in "micro-scale" you'r maniac man... :D:D jokes apart... great stuff there... well done!!! I will comment there later.

Thanks again for letting me steal your idea! sure I'll send you the video. ;)

About the Falcon.
I agree 20000% to your statement... Yes, I guess all the exterior "greeble" on the MF were added well after she left the factory... the removed panels, pipeing etc are all modifications by her previous owners and Solo himself... I think a REAL fresh out the factory would have a very clean and plain surface. Including all the side walls I guess they also removed along the time. YOU'R RIGHT 100%! Well, It is my guess too, I'm not an expert.....
Would one of MF experts here in the RPF tell us more??

Just a little more food for thought... with all those stuff "glued-on" and that "mad" rectenna don't you think its a little bit "out-of-aerodynamics"?
Do you think that ship would fly at right speed rates without leave her pieces behind? loool
Ok... I know.... someone will tell.. in the space there is need of aerodynamics because no gravity, talk about Force of friction and Kinematics stuff....
Well I have to say, what happens when the MF is flying within the planets atmosphere? Taking-off... landing... and like most lately in the TFA, she's being chased by the Tie-fighters?
Its just unpractical all those greeble.......... but... hey.... her rich detailing is why she is one of the most loved space ship to date. Do you agree?

Now, you see.... When I had the idea of a "fresh new Falcon" I was only thinking about a nice paint work.. something different of all classic MF out there.
Then I realized, what about all detail... remove it??? it would looks too much "meh"? and the work on it? put the panels back, re-fit the side walls... remove the pipelines... remove all greebles??? Man, I'm tooooo lazy for that all.... lllloooooooooooollll

but mainly.. the rich detail its what does she looks so beautiful.. I don't know how much you like my painting design.. but for me.. personally.. its just gorgeous.

So, let's settle it down... I won't tell she is fresh new from factory... but her new owner Captain MasterBlaster gave her a revamp, She had a body work... new fittings and paint job?
Would that do??$:p

Thanks again for your comments! love talking about interesting subjects :thumbsup

Best regards,
MB

Thanks, compliments like that make all the insane microscopic work worthwhile. I have not had a chance to work on her for a while, I am still getting things situated in my new hobby room and I just spent some time with my son on his first kits that I got him for Xmas ( star wars Xwing/TIE), but I hope to get back to her soon.

Thanks again for letting me steal your idea! sure I'll send you the video. ;)
No problem, glad to be of help.

Well, we would not want her loosing her pieces, now would we? LOL I suppose the deflector shields could be used to protect the hull from high speeds in the atmosphere... at any rate some kind of shielding would be needed to prevent burnup while entering a planet's atmosphere. You never see a Star Wars ship glowing when it hits the atmosphere so the only logical explaination would be that they use some type of energy shielding.

Then I realized, what about all detail... remove it??? it would looks too much "meh"? and the work on it? put the panels back, re-fit the side walls... remove the pipelines... remove all greebles??? Man, I'm tooooo lazy for that all.... lllloooooooooooollll

Yeah, I know what you mean... to sand off all that ugly/lovely detail would be like cheating with your best friend's wife. What you could do for the "missing" hull plating would be to make them and fit them with a magnet or two so that you can take them off whenever you get the urge. ;)
