Best Non-Pistol/Rifle Based & NON-Trek Projectile or Beam Weapons

Can't believe no one has posted this one yet...

Peacekeeper Pulse Pistol from Farscape

peacekeeper__29317.jpg

*Ahem...*

A lot of weapons from Farscape, such as the pulse pistols (including Crichton's iconic Winona), pulse rifles and whatnot.

The 40-Watt Laser from Real Genius.

Well, the pistol from "The Hidden", is a small silver thing. The one on the photo is a Mossberg shotgun in a bullpup shell.
I had a picture of this "pistol" somewhere... It was used by Kyle MacLachlan as Lloyd Gallagher.
In the same movie a nice flamethrower was also used. :$

Yeah, its Wasp and here it is !

Here is a minigun rifle from "Aeon Flux" called Shock Trooper Rifle.
AeonFlux_ShockTrooperGatRifle.jpg

Just because i like minigun rifles.:cool

I was always impressed with these weapons. I was in front of the tube every week hoping they would use, or at least carry them.....they seem extremely powerful, but of course, they were never really powerful enough for the Robinsons' to dominate...

Oh, I've seen that one before! Should have rang a bell when I saw Michael Nourie's name among the actors... That is a cool little prop - looks like a cross between the T2 chrome finger and the alien artifact from Spielberg's "Taken" miniseries! :lol

Farscape had some great ones. Asside from the pistol already mentioned there was:

The rifle and all its variations:
PulseRifle32.jpg

The heavy rifle and its variations:
BigPulseRifle9.jpg

And all the various mercenary guns throughout the show:

Yep, that's it!

The Blaster from the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica series is also nice.

I believe it qualifies.
Just someone tell me why they replaced then with the Five Sevens...:cry

Sonic Disrupter from SeaQuest. Basically it seems to be a dressed Assault Phaser, but it qualifies i believe.

I always believed that the Season 1 blaster was the standard issue service weapon when a pilot was on a mission while the FN-57 are the standard issue while on board ship. The reason why I assume this is because in the "Razor" flashback webisodes and the flashback Adama has in the movie, he uses the Season 1 blaster. In fact, you do not see the Season 1 blaster at all during the onboard Galactica scenes, instead regular pistols for sidearms (like the ones seen in both parts of "Kobol's Last Gleaming"). The only time the Season 1 blaster shows up is when Helo is using it during his time on Caprica. So, the use of normal pistols was there, it's just that the FN-57 became the normal "blaster" for the scenes onboard Galactica.

Besides, I don't see a problem with the FN-57s. In fact, they are pretty awesome in my book.

Indeed Five Sevens are awesome!
But they don't quite do the trick for me.
I mean, the Five Seven is so "Earthly", as well as the other guns and equipment they use. They even used Earth military tracks!
Maybe they wanted the viewers to develop familiarity with the humans and hatefulness for the Cylons and that's why the Centurions are mechanical and un-human.
Can't find any other reason why the humans in BSG are using guns that fire bullets. They even seem very infective against Centurions.

The Original Series i believe had more "Space" looking props. Only read comics thought... No change to see the episodes on TV or rent them...:unsure

Well, that's my option...

But its grounded in a reality similar, if not familiar, to our own. And that's what helps makes the show unique. It's not the typical space opera. It's not the "Oh, we've lost our homes, but we're going to be okay and we're going to go to Earth and we're going to hold hands and sing songs," mentality of the original show. The best science fiction is the kind that acts like a mirror to our world. That's why the original "Star Trek" is so memoriable: because it dealt with issues of the time, such as racism and indifference (as an example). And I think that's what will make the reimagined series of "Battlestar Galactica" have a much longer resonance than, let's say something like "The Dresdon Files" or "Painkiller Jane."

And the world of the show is one of the things that I like about it. I can almost imagine that the worlds of the 12 Colonies are no different from ours. When I watch "Caprica," I can see how similar the law system is to ours, how they have sports like we do, how they have crimes and criminals like we do. And that they have a virtual world similar to the real world's "SecondLife" game. The world of "Star Trek" doesn't feel as real by any standards except for some minor technologies like computers and medical technology. The firearms of the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica" not being some fictional and pseudo-mythical power technology is a great thing, because a gun is a gun. A gun is a real thing. And the fact that they had guns that fired bullets is just another small detail that adds realism to an amazing show.

I know it seems like I'm being fanboyish, I'm sure. But there are some things that, if not done right, will push a person out of the story. BSG having real firearms is a breath of fresh air in comparison to the constant laser weapons we've seen.

All the guns from Riddick.
Oh, dude, HELL YES!!!!!!!!!!! :love How could I have forgotten those???? These Necromonger weapons have such beautiful, purposeful, flowing, organic designs... If they were dug up here as alien artifacts, I would totally believe it!

My only gripe with any Sci-Fi weapon is when exposed glass, cables, wires, cords, ducts, & tubes are used to dress it up (hint: many of the Farscape, DUNE, & MIB weapons in this thread, even the Necro rifle above - very cool, "busy," & other-worldly sure, but...) I don't care if it's the venerable Blade Runner blaster with the exposed dual-core wire or an or E-11 stormtrooper blaster with an helical cord. Field Weapons 101: YOU-DO-NOT-WANT-ANYTHING-ON-YOUR-WEAPON-THAT-CAN-SNAG, KINK, DING, BEND, RIP, TEAR, FRAY, OR-ACCIDENTALLY-UNCOUPLE-AND-RENDER-YOUR-LIFE-SAVING-AND-SOMETIMES-EVEN-WORLD-SAVING-WEAPON-UTTERLY-USELESS! Good grief... :rolleyes Buy a clue from Avatar: now THEY got it RIGHT! (Of course, the entire steampunk weapon subculture would immediately cease to exist if you could not have AT LEAST 10 exposed coils, springs, tubes, ducts, glass test tubes, gauges, and wires sticking out in the most preposterous angles, like the uber-cool but ridiculous-looking Dr. Grodbort ray guns, but hey: at least it's not something we have to worry about in this thread!) :lol

Guard/Kyra pistol (photo & replica credit: Matsuo):

Two of the Merc weapons had Calico M950 grip & trigger guards visible (identical to the Terminator 2 Endorifle, in fact) so I sadly excluded them - VERY attractive props, to be sure!

Helion hero rifle:

Things of beauty, indeed!!! :thumbsup

I'm sorry, but you are now banned from this thread. :(

Gotcha! :lol

Don't go editing your post - but I do want it to serve as an example unto others who dare defy my instructions. ;)

Oh, and guys - please let's not turn this thread into a debate over which REAL-WORLD based BSG weapons (basically all of them) are cooler - kinda antithetical to the topic, I would say.

Thanks!

Dan

Tymer, you're really asking for a butt-kickin! :lol

FYI, the props can be EITHER projectile-firing OR beam weapons - just NON-TREK.

I know this isn't a "non-projectile" gun but it was just too cool to pass up not showing.....The Terminator's Laser Sighted Colt .45 Longslide. The story about it is here if you care to look.

And MrNoWrong, I just visited your build thread and was blown away! I've never watched Dr. Who, but both the preacher gun and the other version are BAD-ASSSS! :thumbsup Let the world see your finished replica one more time:

Here are some more that I thought of:

Galaxy Quest Nebulizer:

Space Above & Beyond Chig rifle:

Stargate Jaffa staff weapon:

You'd think there would be plenty of nice large photos of the screen-used staff guns out there, but there's nothing - mostly renderings and disassembled replicas! :confused

Keep 'em coming! :)

My favorites, will see what they give me on MIB3 to do.
