"I present to you, the ballistic missile submarine, RED OCTOBER

Now I've got the soundtrack music going through my head....

Love that sub. I need one to go with my U-96 and Pampanito, aka Stingray...

I'd love to see a picture of that Stingray. I always thought Down Periscope was hilarious.

This is a photo I took of the "Action. An Adventure in Movie Making" touring exhibit. This was taken from a second floor balcony looking down on the Red October filming model, which was hanging from the ceiling. It is a big model.

I'm building it using Revell's new 1/72nd Gato-class sub. Stingray has the newer Balao-class periscope shears/radars arrangement and I'm having to scratchbuild that.

MAN that is a big model. (I'll need to take it outside to get good photos of it...)

That would be beyond awesome.

Would you like me to start another thread?.?

If you want, might be easier for everyone to find. I wont be able to dig up those photos until this weekend, just really busy finishing a film right now.

Oh, please. please. please.

Well, we're just about wrapped up. I've got the propeller properly produced and painted,( go on . . . try and say it fast ;) ) and have to do final cleanups, and lastly, the rear catipillar doors, and then into the silicone she goes. If anyone's still interested, we'll be ready for orders at the end of this week. I'll have 15 of them made. Doubt I'll have that many interested, but there's always eBay.

Here's a shot of her tail and props.

How the heck did you rivet that thing...????

I say @#$%.... [/b]

Mcmaster Carr or Home Depot sells aluminum flashing tape. It has a removable backing on it. This is important because you then take a piece of the foil put it face down on some foam core or somthing that is firm but not too firm. You then take a straight edge and a tracing wheel and roll it along the back side of the foil. Dont push too hard or you will go through the foil tape. Once you have layed out the pattern you want you can cut out the panel , pull the backing off and apply. You can use a burnishing tool or a tounge depressor to burnish the tape down. I also used this technique on T-3 for the Sea King Helicopter crash.

Multipurpose Aluminum Foil Tape (type this into the search window on the website)
http://www.mcmaster.com/
Lead Foil Tape (Page 3332) This is really great for compound surfaces.
Dritz tracing wheel

Happy riviting..

Thanks for the reference pics of the Stingray and the great tips. I look forward to seeing what else you have. You wouldn't happen to have a good shot of the Stingray logo on the bow of the sub, would you?

It sure has. This is a gret project, and the tip about the rivets alone was worth reading this thread. PLus seeing the pics of this really awesome model... defintiely worth the price of admission ;)
