A few months back a friend and I were talking about Star-Lord's belt buckle and we decided to try to make a functional one. We started by looking at some reference images of the screen used one.
Then we planned out what would make a functional profile that still had the same look as the original buckle and I created a 3D model to print out as a master for foundry casting it in aluminum. I also created a quick cradle to hold the buckles flat to drill some holes for screws to hold the buckle hardware onto the aluminum castings (along with some loc-tite for good measure). All of the damage was added with a dremel to the clean prints so that we could replicate fairly closely the damage on the screen used one.
The raw cast came out really well and after cleaning up the sprues, attaching the belt hardware and adding patina by hand by an industry propmaker we were super pleased with how well it turned out!
Works great as a daily wear belt buckle!
