Ok so I totally forgot to update this thread with the other info. The short version is: the type family used throughout the movie (in different variants) is Vista Sans.
The long version: I couldn't grab a good-enough screencap of the Coffee cup to run it effectively through any of the font finders, but I noticed that in the coffee shop the menu on the back wall the letter C, while thinner than the one on the cup, had many similarities in form to the one on the cup. And the F and E had basically the same ratios of arm lengths as far as I could tell:
since these letters showed up well and in straight lines, it was easy in photoshop to adjust for perspective, blow up using an AI image enhancer, and get a usable test image for the font finders.
Vista Sans Bold was not the first possibility that came up on WhatTheFont, in fact it was several down the list. But Vista Sans Bold was the only typeface with the correct angles on the ends of the C, F and E.
Exploring the Vista Sans family, it turned out there were MANY variants. Including, in all its irrationally-exuberant glory: VISTA SANS BLACK
(Edited because after all that I accidentally embedded the wrong test image at the end. Corrected now though.)
(also, I'll add: while it's an expensive font to buy outright, if you happen to have a license for Adobe fonts, it is available there:
Vista Sans | Adobe Fonts)
