Thanks- anyone want to build me a shelf unit for these??
Mark
I'd do a section of grid wall with the hat rack fixtures and place them in a pattern of your choice.
Man, that is a lot of work you pulled off there! Nice!
Can you dish on how you finished the interiors?

Holy crap in a hat, that's exquisite!!
Kudos on the completed set. Man, it just left me in awe.
I wish I had that many helmets. Have you thought of any unique ideas for displaying them yet?
That's a spectacular amount of helmetry. Can't imagine how much time that took.
oh my god. That is friggin epic. Mad props to you!
Beautiful, approaching Bothanspy proportions!
Been tossing around several ideas- I considered the same thing that Mara Jade's Father suggested early on; that would be my preference if this had a perminant home on a wall somewhere, but unfortunatley I don't have a space like that. Plus, this collection is meant to be displayed at conventions for the Rebel Legion costuming group; so it really needs to be dis-assembleable.
I'm looking at either using pre-made plastic shelving units (that break down), or building something from 1/4" Sintra plastic that I can take apart.

I used cheap ear protectors from Harbor Freight (ear cups cut off and glued inside):
Industrial Ear Muffs
Then I used a piece of floor-mat from Northern Tool in the back. One mat yielded enough for all the helmets:
Airug Anti Fatigue Floor Mat — 5ft. x 3ft. Dim. | Safety Mats | Northern Tool + Equipment

Then I painted everything else black.
Since these are meant mostly for display, the goal was to put enough inside that they would look somewhat 'real'. If/when I wear any of these, I'll have to put some additional pieces of padding here and there.

VERY impressive, and the you have set the bar
wow! Nice work, would love to see a tutroial on how you paint and weather if you have one, getting ready to put together an X-wing pilot and build a helmet and any tips, pointer, new techiques would be most welcome!
