Jun 21, 2012 - WIP Captain America Shield, and Avengers Suit #1

    Hello All,

Yes, this is yet another shield build. I had a few issues with UPS causing some damage.

I have the new shield now, and I am going to start the build.
I am also going to be making a full costume from the Avengers.

First of all, before I start anything I have a few scratches that I need to be fixed. The scratches arent very deep, so it shouldnt be a big deal.

Anyone have an advise on how to repair this?

    Thanks,

    Thomas

Wetsanding? Might mess up the "circular" machine look of the shield though unless you make sure to only brush it in one direction. I'd start with 600, then 1000 and maybe 2000 to see if you can lift them out. Do you know what kind of aluminum it is?

I dont know what kind of aluminum it is.

I read that Valor made a thing where he was able to put sand paper on it and helped. Im just having trouble visualizing it.

I really dont want to make it worse.

Take a 1" piece of aluminum, wrap 150 grit sandpaper, or a scotchbright pad around it. Use a loose bolt in the center of the shield through the piece of aluminum. Spin the 1" wide piece over the scratches. I've used the scotch bright pad for fine scratchs, and 150grit paper for deep scratches.

    Okay,

So I have been working on the scratches with 2000 grit sandpaper, and I am worried about ruining the finish.

So my question is, am I doing more damage?

Use the spinning method bjall4jc mentioned above. I would start with 150 grit. It'll cut into the metal and get rid of the scratches. Them switch to a scotchbrite pad and spin for a bit. That will soften the spin marks back to the correct finish.

In this thread (first page) you can see a pic of the spinning set up I use.

Good luck. Let me know if you need brackets for the back
