Jun 2, 2012 - what product can you use to fill in silicon for HIC? #1

Hi, I'm a relative newbie here so go easy on me. I purchased a silicon sculpt of a han in carbonite type prop and when I lay it flat the face caves in. I'm new to working with this material so can anyone recommend a product that I could fill in the back of the sculpture to ensure the face stays three dimensional. I'm thinking that there must be some sort of light weight foam or even a resin product that would not damage the silicone.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this a mold or the actual piece that's silicone. Because if it's the actual piece you are never going to get any metalizing paint to stick to silicone. Not even sure why anyone would make a silicone HIC This must me a mold for making the part right? If its the piece you can fill the back with foam from smooth-on depending on the type of silicone. You sure it's not urethane or latex?

    thanks Jclayman99,

It is RTV silicone rubber, and it is the actual piece not the mold. Will the smooth on product still work on it?

It will but it will not bond to it

Best thing to do it get an old towel, cut it up into little squares and glue then to the backside with silicone caulk ( the stuff they use to seal bathtubs). Then pour in a 2 part foam. The foam will stick to the towel.

the prop is already molded in silver. However, I was planning to use Fuse FX silicon paint, or smooth on silicon paint. If anyone has ever used these paints please let me know if they work well. Fuse Fx said they make a metalic silver they should have a standard black as well.

Thanks for the info on the foam. I wanted something substantial rather than stuffing it with paper or bubble wrap.

thanks, i'm not sure if I could the slab is very thin in spots and if I tried pour resin into it I'm afraid it might tear.
