Dec 9, 2008 - WED clay users, quick question about keeping workable... #1

    Hi
So have got my first WED based project coming up, and I'm curious about a couple of things re: keeping the clay workable, say overnight at least. This is my intro to WED to see if it can take the place of Chavant NSP for some projects.

I've seen wet rags or large wet cloths applied to the sculpt (and then wrap that up in plastic bags) sealing them up- I'm curious if that's the general method for overnight.

As for keeping the clay appropriately wet for a sculpting session, how often do you tend to hit it with water, and how heavy? A bit of mist or do you want to get it slick?

I suppose last would be, when working with a pretty heavy lay on, have you run into any problems with the internal mass starting to dry on you? Don't think that it would, but just any heads up...?

    Thanks...

spritz it down moderately cover it with a damp cheesecloth and then bag it- used distilled water to prevent mold. Tie the bag up near the opening.

While sculpting you should lightly mist the entire sculpt every 20 to 30 minutes with a Distilled Water/70% brand Isopropyl Alcohol/Glycerin mix.

Isopropyl and Glycerin is findable in drug stores.

Mix ratio I used is 1 teaspoon of Isopropyl and 1 teaspoon of Glycerin to 12 oz water (sodacan).

i just spritz it when im finished for the day and seal it in a plastic bag. also, if you dont want to bother with distilled water and ipa. you can put a bit of bleach in your normal water and that will also prevent the sculpt going moldy
