Tron legacy Disk - My quick attempt

I'm glad studios still use practical effects at all! I think thats why I liked this new disc as soon as I saw it. I usually hate when designs change on such iconic pieces. I guess what I'm trying to say is... Keep making awesome props!

I'm being 100% serious. Those look nicer than the ones in the original Tron movie, but I know there are some video games and such out there.

Awesome Rick! I've been hoping this would bring you out of hiding. :lol I would LOVE to work with you at some point. (forgive my shameless job begging)
Now that I know the actual size I want to change mine again! I started at 11" dia, then had to increase the overall thickness, and that made it become almost 13". I know exactly what your talking about with 10 pounds in a 1 pound bag. The original tricorders for next gen were like that. When I worked on trek stuff it was always like that, complex lighting rigs inside props less than the size of your hand.
The whole reason I went with the vacuform was because I knew I would have to do some fancy electronics hidden inside a very small cavity. I'm actually going to do the "blades" as soft rubber with LED's embedded so I can throw it and bounce off things and still get the lighting to work inside safely. Man, I wish I had the time to finish the electronics on this thing right now.
Rick, thanks for taking the time to speak, I also know of the pains of NDA's and how they can be so frustrating when you just want to show something to someone. Keep up the great work man, you inspire many with the countless hours of hard work you do. I hope they pay you well man, The Disney I worked with years ago was the most demanding people to work for.

It's unbelievably neat to have have you here Rick. I am looking forward to when you can talk about it more. I am an original Tron fanatic, and just wanted to say you've done an amazing job with a much loved prop.

Rick thank you for all of the info and stories, its awesome!

I'm putting EL into one of wondersquid's shells when I get it, hoping I can achieve a high brightness level with it.

Playing around with EL wire, quick pick from my phone its actually a darker blue similar to whats seen in the photos.

(That's about 6' btw)

The inverter is 2xAA, about 1" high but it looks like I can remove the case and shrink it down further if I have to. Thinking I'm going to rig a switch that could be hidden under the black inserts.

Thats the route im going down fitting EL Wire to mine when it is sent out, will probably try and strip it down to custiom fit the battery pack an on/off switch to the Disc. Cant Wait.
