Ok I read through the threads and understand that a Yale/ERA Key was used for the Tardis Key. However I found this picture and wondered what would be the best way to weather a key to look like it.
 
Maybe some kind of mild acid? Lemon juice or maybe wet table salt left on the surface for a period of time (maybe salt wet with lemon juice)?
 
Or any kind of plating stripper. You'd have to be really careful though. Sandpaper would do the job, but it could take a few hours to get it done. Great image btw, where is it from?
