In BSG...new series.
I was just browsing and still love this painting as one of the best props of BSG. I almost sprung for one of these prints by Propworx, but the artists re-signature on the bottom right rock is what got me along with the price.
I already got my wife to agree to allow me to hang it, but this small detail prevents. Your thoughts ?
Yeah, that's a shame. It's a great piece though! I would get it and hang it and just count the sig as part of it like the way Hershfeld used to hide his daughter Nina's name in his works.
The cool thing is, you wouldn't even know what it is unless you really looked closely at it.
If it's a dream piece, then you gotta get it.
My holy grail of prop art work has always been the comic book from BTTF. When I finally found a print of the original artwork, there was nothing gonna stop me from owning...sig or not. It's now hanging in my bedroom!

Adama's Rare and Elusive Painting of The First Cylon War
In the Battlestar Galactica saga, many new Science Fiction icons were born. Perhaps the most elusive of these is the huge oil painting seen hanging in Admiral Adama's quarters. Glimpsed in episodes going back to the beginning of the series, fans have long clamored for a closer look. But because the painting is a one-of-a-kind original oil, closer looks were limited to those lucky few with access to the set.
Until now, that is. Through special arrangement with Universal Studios, QMx has acquired the only digital image of the painting taken directly from the canvas, after the propmaster aged it, but before it hung on Adama's wall. This high-resolution archival scan documents every brush stroke, capturing the image exactly as it looked the day it was placed on the set.
Depicting the bloody landscape that was the First Cylon War, the painting has been faithfully reproduce in a plate-printed 17"x22" lithograph, reproduced on 100-pound, art-quality paper.
More astounding than this art print's detail and accuracy, thought, is it's price: Because we want to make sure every Battlestar fan who wants it can own this rare piece, the open-edition lithograph is available for just $14.95.
Trust me, I have given it a lot of thought and just these two factors are prohibitory. Oh well -

Hmmmm... looks like the Propworx print is the same size as the original... reportedly 48x36. That puts the QMx at roughly half scale. However, $15 is a really nice price point. I just don't have the $300, but I think I could scrape together $15 between the loose change in the couch and my car. I'm going to have to look into that.
Buy it, scan it, enlarge it and get it re-printed?
Gotta disagree guys....an artists signature is "his" mark as the only evidence on who created it. It's as much a part of the peice as the subject itself. To blot it out or paint over it seems like a real slap in the face from my point of view. I dunno, I just really like to give all respect to the artist whom creates any piece of art that I invest in....be it any medium.
That said, I wouldn't even consider not getting something as awesome as that piece because of where the artist signed it....it's just too cool

I would say, too, that the artist's signature is part of what justifies 20 times the price for twice the product.
Erasing the signature erases the added value, I think.

I guess that is one way of looking at it. His signature is one TWICE though. Once as part of the original painting, the other as the new signature. Kind of distracting.

Had I the money, I'd buy one & frame it for the living room under anti-UV glass.
Don't give a wet slap about the signature.
So I settled for the QMx poster, which will be cut up & put into a similar frame under anti-UV glass.
$300 for a print of that size, signed by original artist = totally fair IMO.
The signature bugs me, it's big too; almost the size of one of the people!
This sort of thing rips the prop from the theater of the mind and simply makes it an art piece. Which of course is fine if you want a print. If you want a prop replica, it should be as it was on screen.
The sigs a little too pronounced for my liking. Cool pic though!
It would be fantastic if you could find a clean version!

I totally get where GM is coming from. It's one thing for the artist to sign the piece of work, but when the signature becomes an element of that piece of work, it becomes for me too...distracting. I want to look at the art, and not the signature. The art should stand on its' own.

The thing about signed prints are the inherent value of such. The artist hand signs them purposefully larger than normal because of the added value it brings. I for one can't usually afford original pieces, instead opting for signed prints....I tend to like the fact that the signature stands out....it's what you pay the extra cash for. Otherwise, it's just a poster.
Looking up close at the print, it's kinda hard to see the original signature...
