    Jun 25, 2012 - Steampunk ray gun build #1

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and have been creeping around for awhile. I finally thought I should post something for now. To get started I bought a dollar watergun that has some reference of a ray gun, going to cut some of it apart to change it's shape in areas so it will look more ray gun like and less water gun toy. If any one has any suggestions on how to do this it would help alot. Will be posting pictures later on hopefully.

A picture, or maybe a link to some website, of this squirtgun would be very helpful to see what the potential you have to work with.

WETA just held a contest for The RPF, not to long ago. It was to modify a
Righteous Bison, to your own design. Check out that thread, there are alot of
    good Ideas.

One thing I think about when building "Steampunk" item's, is using item's not
normally seen everyday. I mean anyone can put a brass lamp together to look
like a gun, but when you search for unfamiliar items to use for your build, it
makes it more unique. I search flea markets, for anything, and everything for
my builds. If I don't notice right away what it is, or where it come from, than I'll
buy it to use for a build ( of course if it's cheap! ). Some familiar item's like
copper tubing, and vacuum tubes are a must for me though!

Here is a picture with the gun and a design i drew up really fast sorry for the bad resolution.ipod doesnt take great pics in this lighting. The center of the gun will be cut out to have a clear cylinder with a blue led light going in it. I am not sure if i should remove the cylinder part in the back of the gun yt. still in the design phase, what do you guys think?

WoodChuck here. I made this one as a "Cleavage Cannon" for the ladies.
You are welcome to copy the design.

Well it doesn't look like to bad of a design! See what you have laying around for spare
parts, then go from there! You should be able to find, and improvise alot of the items in.
your diagram. Remember it's not the destination, its the journey. Just take
    your time, and have fun.

Ah, yes, the squirtgun is what I call the early, retro version of the PPG. I have one of these, too.

I think you have a pretty good start here in your design. Personally, I'd tone down the rear fin. Other than making it look cool and old school, it really serves no purpose to the operation of the weapon, unless you intend to incorporate it into a sighting system. Also keep in mind that you may want to holster this weapon, and a fin can be in the way.

Thanks Jason, this is my first weapon prop so I'm still trying to improvise with things. The fin does look big,I have reduced it and made the handle longer.I'll be posting a pic after the bondo is dry.

well was able to make the handle longer, it looks really bad but hopefully as i finish smoothing out the handle and putting detail it would look bette. I still need to look for tubing or any junk i can use since i dont have that much stuff to work with.
