Star Trek XI Kelvin Communicator (FINISHED)

Finally got enough done to share some pics. I figured by the looks of the pics we have that the prop is painted resin, due to the chips and dings we see in the pictures. I however, figured, the more metal the merrier. I made a vacuum box so that I could do the body. It WORKED! Whu-hoo! So far she has a vac-formed body, aluminum mid plate and a copper (yes metal) lid. Here are a few teaser pics. I should be finished in a couple of days.

Re: Star Trek XI Kelvin Communicator WIP

How did you get the delta shield on the lid? At first I thought you embossed it but I can see from the pics of the underside that that is in fact not the case...

Looking great! What did you use for the metal inside plate?

Nice! Very Nice!
Ironically, the Kelvin comm got more screen time than the new E-comm.

Re: Star Trek XI Kelvin Communicator WIP

someone did open it up pictures somewhere on RPF -- it has brass grid on inside as shown in nakedmolerats replica and then has what appears to be a solid aluminum disk set into it about where the moire ring is on TOS comm.

No other controls or details that I saw in the pics.

Re: Star Trek XI Kelvin Communicator WIP

Sorry folks. I promised an update last night, but the cable was down all night.

So here is the update. Almost done.

Should be finished tonight. I hope to have her on the 'Bay tomorrow for a weekend three day auction. I hope to raise a little capital to make a bunch more "clones"

Nice...I am definitely interested in those "clones."

I would even be interested in an all-resin version as well, should you decide to offer one.

If any clones make their way into the world, they will be all resin copies.

Well as Spock said, "There are always possibilities" just not "that many" possibilities, if you catch my drift.

Great job NakedMoleRat, would be interested in a clone (depending on price )
I was looking over your prop and I see it has a metal plate inside with lots of little holes. I was looking for something like that awhile ago for a different prop (can't remember what it was right now) and had no luck at all in Windsor. Could you tell me what it is called and where it might be find
If anyone else can help that would be great too!
Thanks much, Petseal

It was a sheet of perforated brass that I found at Hobby Town USA, or for that matter at most hobby shops. It was $15.00 for a 6 by 8 inch sheet, or something like that.
