well, opinions, as they say, are like a-holes, everyone has one...and here's mine...

I love both designs...so cool to see such explorations...and I think these designs are a much better blend of what we know from TOS and what could have been.

On a side note, one problem I have with any design is functionality...yeah, I know these aren't real, folks, but if they were, how hard would it be to actually READ all the small type on Next Gen style Tricorder readouts. Maybe eyesight evolved in the 23rd century, but really...has anyone really looked at how small the type is on many of the tricorder designs?

As much as I liked the 2009 Trek Movie props, the tricorder has the same problem...too tiny display.

Ahhh, gone are the days where Spock would carry around his textbook size tricoder with blank gray screen and, without hardlly glancing at the readout, he would somehow still know which direction the alien lifeforms were coming from.

Back on topic -- LOVE the new designs...so much fun. For those that keep laying into them...why not show us YOUR designs.
I never thought that Star Trek Technology might be outdated ... but when Roddenberry and crew created the original designs, they did not own a DROID 2 or IPAD touch ....

I think that Trek could use an update on uniforms .... kind of like .... this:

That phaser design really does seem to fit into the ST universe and is a neat concept. Anyone considering building one?

    Meh...

The phaser design looks like a haphazard mash up of previous designs in an effort to make something that appears to be a transitional piece. Not digging the tricorder at all... It's like he started with a "curve theme" and tried to see how far he could take it.

Very nice phaser, I like the new design and the new uniforms.

Interesting fusion of various pistol designs. The grip does seem a little too thin but I like the design overall.

That's a cool phaser design. I'll admit that the phaser they used in the 2009 trek movie was cool. This looks cool. It's sort of a cross between the TOS phaser and the Assault Phaser from Star Trek VI.

Wow, I like that MUCH better than what they used in JJ's movie.

I got to playing with a phaser design on my AutoCAD after being inspired by all the cool sketches done by franz bolo.

I admit I'm more than just a bit old school when it come to the phaser design, but I thought I'd just toss it up here for folks to look over.

Someone with a 3D printer should ask that guy for the rights to print it up! I'd buy them.

The Phaser is AWESOME (I hated the JJ Phaser, didn't fit with anything else in the universe at all, chrome?! Like Amidalla's ships in SW - WTF?!).

The tricorder is cool and all, I like that it's different.

If I am not mistaken, he says the tricorder is set up that way and can be had

Thanks for the praise. Yeah, I have seen Scott's awsome Phaser pistol concept. It impressed me so much that I got one of his kits some time ago. I still need to assemble the thing one of these days.

Interesting, but I agree with the comments here, that the grip's too thin.
Overall it seems a little too slick, kinda like an iPhaser, with all the control surfaces set flush.
Not for me to be honest - but thanks for posting, not only this but the other designs - as I love seeing concepts and upgraded (for want of a better term) designs.

I dunno....the phaser concept looks just like they took the original tv series phaser and used photoshop to cueve and smooth it out....also, the clear emitter tip thingy is completely lost.

I liked the design in the JJ film. It was bold and different. It could maybe have used some contrasting panels, but overall i think it was a nice design, even the switcheroo barrels.

I believe there is just too much clinging to the past going on sometimes. Let's see something new and exciting!

Actually I love that part of it. It's a great combination of original and new.

But the rest has to go

The only problem I have with it is the handle. It's too thin. Hand-weapons/handguns have very solid and thicker handles, for a better grab. You need to have a good grip of the weapon, so it can point and fire were you want it to hit. The top I really like.
Yup, I was gonna say that. As anyone who's ever held a Star Trek III phaser can tell you, a tapering handle is an awkward thing to grip.

    Pretty neat, though.

It isn't just the handle but the trigger is awkwardly located, at an angle to the direction of finger pull and nearly flush with the body. It would be hard to guarantee positive contact. I like the look of the main body, though. It would be nice to see the phaser 1 separately. I bet it's curvature makes it easier to hold and aim than the original.
