Body is grey? I've seen a video from a tour at the prop house that shows a pile of really rough looking phasers of this design that looked to have a completely silver body...
of course it was a low quality vid so what do I know.

Well, the tricorder looks good. I think the horizonal pivot between stun and kill is goofy. You know, the phaser looks to me as though it's upside down, at least in the rear. Oh well....
Link to the video please LOL
Its a private video taken by a friend of mine who got a private tour. Sorry.
The phasers have a decidedly "used" look in the film, i.e. areas where the blue-grey finish segues/fades into metallic silver. It's actually a fairly complex bit of surface texturing; more so than I recall seeing on other incarnations of the weapon (although I'm by no means an expert).
Oh ok, I thought I was just seeing stunt props or something. I'm trying to get the video from my friend. You think it's safe yet to post screencaps?
Well I didn't sign any and neither did he. His cousin is an Imagineer at Disney and supposedly Disney used the same shop that made some of the props for this movie.
Let me put it this way... I would have no problem if you posted screencaps.
BTW, from what I can tell, the ratio of stainless steel to blue-grey varies from one prop to another.
I had the same reaction until I saw the finished effect, which is pretty damned cool IMO. If nothing else it gives the thing an extra measure of personality.

Is the horizontal pivot/change from stun to kill done 'mechanically'?
Do they press a button/setting for it to flip over? Or is it hand rotated?
Heh heh!
It's kinda like those Star Wars "Build Your Own Lightsaber" kits!
Take pieces of these:

And make a authentic Trek XI phaser!

If you signed no NDA's I'd say post up some pics!!! I'll give ya 20$
I'm a huge trek fan. Been watching since I as long as I can remember. First saw the reruns of TOS in the 70s and the cartoon- went to every TOS film in the theater.
When I first saw the new trailer... I hated nearly everything. Spock was the only thing that looked good.
These pics are just of accessories for toys... and they actually don't look too bad! I'm pleasantly surprised! The tricorder is the best of the three. And the phaser does remind me a lot of the STIII phaser (which happens to be my personal favourite... maybe that makes me biased).
And now that I've seen the communicator flipped up, I can totally see it being released as a cellphone.
Kevin
Im pestering my friend to send me the video again. We'll see
I guess I'll adopt a wait and see attitude then. Anyone have any idea as to why the phasers only have stun and kill? The originals were capable of multiple settings. Hell, in The omega glory they killed thousands of people with one phaser. Could this be an Enterprise reference perhaps?I had the same reaction until I saw the finished effect, which is pretty damned cool IMO. If nothing else it gives the thing an extra measure of personality.
To quote Spock, "Interesting."
Is that the Forerunner symbol from Halo???

Is that a picture of the toy or the real prop?
