    Dec 21, 2010 - SPH-4 Microphone Identification #1

This is Durants helmet from Black Hawk Down.

Its an SPH-4, however the mic doesnt appear to be the standard M87.

Can anyone tell me what microphone this is? Im trying to get a replacement.

Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!

That looks like the one on my CVC helmet. I'll check when I get home. That mic looks like the DH-132A mic

I agree that it's the mic from a CVC helmet, looks like the one on my DH-132A.

Thanks guys thats a great response.

From your info, turns out the mic is a M-138/G.

However, finding one for sale is a lot harder!

Any one got suggestions as to where i can buy just the mic, and not the headset aswell?

    Thanks

I know each part, like the boom etc, has it's own serial number. Best bet is to buy an entire CVC that's beat up. Odds are the mic is still good. It might not work but that's not important for a prop.

The DH-132 is fiberglass so it's probably the cheapest. The A and B are kevlar. The B has more protection than A.

    I PM'd you some links.

Try here: HOME PAGE FOR MURPHYS SURPLUS

In fact, this H-161E headset looks like it might have the correct mic on it: http://www.murphyjunk.bizland.com/imagelib/sitebuilder/misc/show_image.html?linkedwidth=actual&linkpath=http://murphyjunk.bizland.com/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/H161E.jpg&target=_self&title=H-161E%20HEADSET/MIC.%20UNUSED%20%20COND.%20$49%20EA.

edit: Look for it under the category "U.S. ISSUE COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT AND RELATED ITEMS" and scroll down about a third of the way.

    Thanks Franz and Jim.

Jim that link looks good, ive emailed them to see costs to the UK.

I have the screen used BHD Durant helmet, but it was used in the green zone after, and they changed the mic to the M87. I want to get it back to how it looked for BHD.

    Thanks for the help guys
