Jul 20, 2012 - See through Hellraiser box with lights #1

I was hoping to get this out earlier in the week, but better late than never. Some of you may know I make Hellraiser box panels. So I decided to add a new twist to the box. I thought it would be interresting to have a clear box that lights up inside. So I made an acrylic box with a little doodad inside that lights up when you tap the box. I know it isn't traditional, but I think there's a lot of things that should've been made that weren't because "the box needs to be black lacquer and have brass panels". I say nuts to that! So I give to you a clear acrylic hellraiser box that lights up blue and red.

    Great idea
Looks nice. Did you find a box that fits your panels exactly, or did you have to adjust panel sizes to fit the box?

I made the box from an 8 x 10 sheet of plexiglass I got at Home Depot. Basically just cut and routed each piece. The panels are 3 x 3 inches, so I made the box accordingly. I'll take some night time pictures this evening.

As requested - some night time pictures. I don't quite know why the pictures are tilted slightly, I wasn't drinking that much

NICE! Have you considered using some diffusing paper like some people have used on their Tesseract projects? I think that'd help give it that all over glow.

Thanks Mad Jack. I really appreciate it.

Kerr Avon, I hadn't thought of that, because I didn't know anything about diffusing paper before you posted the question. When I first started making this, my intention was to put things inside it like cogs and gears to make it look like a moveable, openable toy box. Then I realized I had no clue where to begin with that. So I ended up with the version I have now. I've gotten some similar suggestions on another board that might give another dimension of fun to it.

Any other thoughts or suggestions are more than welcome.

Because you seem to be skilled with making brass panels you could make lots of gears or other cool brass mechanics to add inside it, Add a couple of crystals or gems as well.

It seems kinda silly now, but I hadn't thought of etching my own cogs and sprockets before you mentioned it. I just might do that.

This is really nice! As for cogs/gears, I saw some in the local Hobby Lobby in the scrap book area, real metal!
