    Sep 30, 2010 - Scream - "Woodsboro Murders" prop book #1

I've been looking for an original copy of this for many years but with no success.
It would make a great display item with a horror collection so I suppose unless I can find an original, I could try and make a replica.
Here are the only photos I have of the original prop. If anyone has any suggestions or would like to help, please chime in:

I just found this additional information:
SCREAM 3 - Gale Weathers' (COURTNEY COX) Hero Screenused Faux Book Prop - A cleverly crafted fake book prop with a custom-made dust jacket displaying the title, "Woodsboro Murders" and the author's name, Gale Weathers (COURTNEY COX) in yellow and purple lettering. The cover design has a shadowy image of the killer's mask and fake blood drops running down the length. The inside of the 6 1/4" x 9 1/4" book actually contains about 450 pages from "The Life of Evelyn Waugh,"

I've always wanted this too. Huge Scream fan.

I think the front cover would be easy enough to recreate but that back cover would be a big *****. Maybe if the background of the back cover was a found image then it'd be possible but if it was custom, I can't see that happening. I'm also wondering if the image of Gale is a photo from the set and took specifically for this OR an actual image of Courtney that is out there somewhere and modified slightly.

When it comes to props that requires pictures of the actor, normally the pictures are done during pre-production to allow time for the prop department to construct them. Sometimes, it's often done during the costume test footage (where an actor would stand against a black background dressed in their character's costume, to see if the camera is capable of registering the outfit against the dark background. You can find an example of this in the "Spiderman" DVD) while other times they actually take the pictures of the actors at locations (be it related or not related to the film) and take shots. More recently, due to the wonderful advent of Photoshop, when it comes to pictures of a character's past, Photoshop is used (i.e. a wedding photo of two actors who are currently in their mid-40s that was mean to be taken 20 years ago).

By the way the photo looks on the back cover, it could either have been a costume test with the background replaced with the design seen, or they Photoshopped her head onto a pre-existing body (I say this because it seems odd that her head is in perfect focus and the rest of her body is slightly blurry).

I thought the exact same thing. I went in search of stock pictures (I looked for about 2 hours) like it and this one is very close. It's definitely modify-able.

I just feel like it's her head on another body ... like you said.

I read somewhere that this prop book may be making an appearence in Scream 4...
I would still like to get my hands on an original, but maybe we can do a decent replica too.

The problem with your search is that you're looking through a recent stock gallery (which isn't a bad thing). The film was made back in 1997, so they most likely used stock from a company that didn't have stock available online (if I recall correctly, online stock didn't come to play until a couple of years later, but I could be wrong). So, it's possible that if it is a stock that is not available online.

    Maybe it's Jennifer Aniston's body?

Dang, I really didn't even think about that.

Maybe one day we'll be able to either re-create this or someone will share a scan of an original cover.

It's no problem, War Machine. When it comes to the photos, think of it like doing a screen-accurate prop replica from the 1970s, where the items may have come from and how they were most likely found.

I'm sure finding the actual photo shouldn't be too hard to find. For all we know the photo and the company that owns the stock may have added it online some time ago, or possibly not. And finding the same stock company may be difficult. However, I agree with you, re-creating the picture with the pose or getting the scan of the actual cover are the only other options we've got.
