Scale Super Battle Droid Update 06/21/08 Pg-4
This is yet another project I’ve started and will probably never finish. Thought I’d show my progress so far. I started this on Thanksgiving 2007 and here is where I am to date.
Started with some plywood discs and connected them with 2”x 6” lumber. My research shows the height of the Super Battle Droid to be 1.93 meters or 6.332021039166666 feet. Mine will be right around 6’ 04”. ![]() I’ve connected the discs with door shim strips. These are precut for installing and leveling door jams. 50 count for $4.95 at Home Depot. ![]() Both sides. ![]() Laying out the placement of the head. ![]() Now the taper for the head to shoulder connection. ![]() Then the shape of the head. ![]() The start of shaping of the chest. ![]() Then connecting the shoulders to the chest. ![]() Then designing the torso. ![]() Torso tapered down to the hip area. ![]() Then designing the back at the shoulders. ![]() ![]() All of this wood will be skinned in fiberglass cloth and resin. Then final shaping with body filler… more than likely. 11/25/07 Skinning this is going to be much easier with fiberglass cloth and resin. Cutting all of those small pieces of wood was way too tedious. ![]() ![]() 12/04/07 Got a chance to work on it some more. Worked mainly on the back and trying to get the over-all shape I am after: ![]() ![]() ![]() 12/07/07 I am quite pleased with the way the fiberglass cloth is laying up on the wooden form: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() 12/08/07 ...and wrapped in plaster:

Very cool!
However, if you say that this is the first lifesize prop you've worked on, you will be banned!

Re: Super Battle Droid 1:1 Scale (Large Pics)
Hello all! Finally registered today and made my introduction in the new users-thread, but as mentioned above, this is one heck of a first post, Sir Ken!!
Helped a friend once with constructing a wooden framework and then fiberglassing, but it was just half the size of yours. I´ve NEVER seen anyone attempting a LS Super Battledroid, so yours would definitely be a novelty if it gets finished! ![]() Sebastian |

I am using every day joint compound for doing dry-wall work. It is cheap at $12.00 for 5 gallons. Easy to spread and easy to sand. It isn't nearly as rigid as "Bondo" but I intend to make this a master for a mold. I also want to thank all of the well wishes on this project. I do intend to finish this one because... well.... I want a pair of these at the end of my driveway to stand guard. They will go well with my son's "Tree Fort" that I started and never finished. Nothing like a 16 foot AT-ST to make the neighbors happy.

Well the plaster sands down nice and smooth... it just take soooooo looooonngggg to dry in this nearly 100% Florida humidity:

Again sir, seeing this being made out of regular easily obtainable items like wood and plaster this is amazing. Hats off.
Eagerly awaiting your finished project |
