This is yet another project Ive started and will probably never finish. Thought Id show my progress so far. I started this on Thanksgiving 2007 and here is where I am to date.
Started with some plywood discs and connected them with 2x 6 lumber. My research shows the height of the Super Battle Droid to be 1.93 meters or 6.332021039166666 feet. Mine will be right around 6 04.
Ive connected the discs with door shim strips. These are precut for installing and leveling door jams. 50 count for $4.95 at Home Depot.
Laying out the placement of the head.
Now the taper for the head to shoulder connection.
Then the shape of the head.
The start of shaping of the chest.
Then connecting the shoulders to the chest.
Then designing the torso.
Torso tapered down to the hip area.
Then designing the back at the shoulders.
All of this wood will be skinned in fiberglass cloth and resin. Then final shaping with body filler more than likely.
Skinning this is going to be much easier with fiberglass cloth and resin. Cutting all of those small pieces of wood was way too tedious.
Got a chance to work on it some more. Worked mainly on the back and trying to get the over-all shape I am after:
I am quite pleased with the way the fiberglass cloth is laying up on the wooden form:
...and wrapped in plaster:
