    Jul 25, 2012 - ROTS DC-15 S Carbine Blaster, first scratchbuild *PIC-Heavy* #1

    Hi

i want to introduce myself with my first attempt for building a prop:

    Here is the Result:

    a Clonetrooper DC-15 S Carbine

    And here the Build:

the last two afternoons spending on buliding the handle from MDF an Plywood, primed and sanded.

It is 80% in size from the Alan Sinclair Blueprints just to fit my 8 year old son.

the pipe isn't the final one, this one on the picture is made from PP, the only material i have found at my local hardware store.

Now i find out that it is not that easy to find PVC-pipes here in Germany.

The PP-Pipe can not be paintet and is not easy to glue in anyway....

I'm going to use the PP-Pipe from the beginning, not the show PVC-Pipe above, because of the bigger diametet of the PVC, it looks unproportional to me.

So i've used a plastic primer on the PP, looking forward if the paint an polystyrene-strips will stay on the primer.

Seems to be a lonesome thread:

...my mother always warned me at people talking with themselves...

Finished the barrel and primed everything one more time:

looking sweet! you might have to switch out the round screws on the handle for flat head screws so it's flesh with the wood....this way it will make it easier for you to put a grip cover on. (unless of course that's the look your going for)...it's just an idea.

keep adding little details here and there and it will slowly but surely get better and better...just make sure not to go over board!

    keep up the good work

    Oh, you΄re not alone - i΄m looking.

I have this blaster on my todo-list, but atm. i΄m not educated enough on it to give anyone tips or critic - so i΄m just enjoying to watch the progress.

I've just bought a "cheapo" scrollsaw, pipes, sheets of mdf and started

But the next one will be better, every step leads to new experiences and improves your skills

I think i would cover the marked area with some rubbergrip, for example a rubbersole for shoerepair

i just had a crazy idea....how about instead of a rubber sole you use a floor mat from a car...its much thinner and it has cool textures to work with

floormats are also a good idea, will keep in mind.

Do it with the Rolling Stones:

    "Paint It Black!"

    Wait for assembly and weathering...

    Indeed.
Thats why the screwheads on my blaster are inside the handle instead of on the outside.

Screwheads on the outside are more exposed to wear and tear, paint will chip off very easily.

The bolts on my h&k G3 back in army were also outside.
Just to pull them out easy to disassemble for clean and check.

It looks great. I would love for this to be my first Scratch Build. Thank you for the inspiration. You did a great job! I saw you went from pvc to PP. I'm sorry, I'm new to this. What is PP? Is it polymer pipe? Also, how did you get the blue prints? I would love to see more photos of yours when its done. Thak you!

PP is Polypropylene, a sort of polyolefine like PE (Polyethylene).
Nothing will realy stuck on these plastic (paint, glue...).

To paint it i sanded it, heatet it, cleaned it with alcohol, primed it with special primer and then paint and glue.
