    Aug 20, 2012 - Revisiting EFX Luke's X-wing Helmet. #1

I've just been given to the opportunity to revisit the efx ANH Luke X-wing helmet. Star Wars helmets owner, uber collector, friend and over all good guy Jez Hill commissioned me to re-weather he's ANH helmet trying to get it a bit closer to how it appeared on screen.

I have to say that I was quite surprised how easy it was to transform the some what "lacking" factory weathering into something rather cool looking. Nothing was removed or re-worked, just new weathering on top of the factory job! IMO, it really brings out the full potential of this release!

And of course the before and after.

    Cheers,

    Steve.

Wait! You forgot the most important part... what's your address so everyone else can send their helmets to be sweded?

Seriously though... Awesome transformation! (No surprise having seen all your previous work)

    Awesome work Steve!

This is proof that the only way to get a licensed helmet to truly resemble how it appeared on screen is to add enhancements to the mediocre factory paintjob.

Even though the undersized decals etc had to be retained, the additional weathering makes this helmet look WAY better than what eFX gave us "out of the box".

Still not sure why they didn't follow your prototype paintjobs and detailing much closer Steve!
    You nailed those prototypes.

I was looking forward to the X-Wing helmet even more than the Vader Legend but after I saw how the production helmets turned out, I decided not to bother picking one up. Your pics are making me regret that decision now!

The oversized black rubber trim around the front edges of the helmet still upsets me though!

Thanks guys! I was pleasently surprised how easy the factory weathering blended together with the new.

Chris, the rubber trim is glued in place. I didn't have the guts to remove it in fear of damaging the paint.

    Cheers,
    Steve

    Now that's weathering.
If only they had looked this good out of the box.

Awesome looking!! I think thats so great that it could be done without having to start from scratch on the paint job. I'm tempted to send mine off!!

When you see the before and after picks you understand how much difference there is, looks great NOW.
Steve if you did the prototype did EFX give you an answer why they are so different.

    Thanks guys!

Zenwalker, I used the back of the an x-acto blade and just scraped it off. Worked very well, just be careful so you don't go thru the white top coat. The base primer coat is dark grey so you don't want that to bleed thru.

    Cheers,

    Steve.
