Don't worry Mike. At least you'll have a lot more reference material by the time you do yours
And i think you guys are right about the tool sitting on top of the speaker. It definitely seems to give it the right length.

Painted with the insignia red plastikote enamel - the good thing about this stuff is, it's completely dry after a few hours, so I should have the handset assembled by tonight:
I might hang fire and try OB's blutooth idea though. That way I could use it instead of my iphone when at home., I like the sound of that.
How about the sticker on the back - is the graphic posted earlier in the thread the exact one they used? Has anyone got a pic to show the exact position it's in and stuff?
I see you guys aren't filling the extra holes in the earpiece. Anyone planning on it?
Are they filled on the actual prop? I know they are hard to see, I just thought they were clogged with some paint or something:

They look filled to me, probably to hide the "trademark" of the phone. Maybe not though.
Yeah, paint doesn't clog like that without getting runs everywhere. Definitely filled.
Ok you guys have convinced me.
Just filled mine:
I didn't want a perfectly flat fill as the original prop isn't like that, you can still see the indentations where the holes were. Kristal Clear is the perfect stuff for that job, luckily I had some to hand from my Enterprise build. Just a quick swipe over the unwanted holes using a piece of wire, a quick blast of paint and voila!
Here's the little progress I was able to make today.
I very carefully drilled a hole as close to the edge of the piece as I was able. And I managed to keep the majority of the fins in place.
With the speaker still in place, there isn't much to support the pick up tool (it's heavier than the rest of the phone) I reckon once it's all painted I'll just epoxy putty it in place. I was also considering a bolt through all of the fins.
I used epoxy putty to fill in the holes at the top.
And I gave the whole thing a quick sand and a rub down with wire wool to take off the matt silver texture.
At the moment it's sporting season 1 Red Dwarf colours when everything was grey.
Is it Ocean Grey or Military Grey I can't quite tell
Other than the logo all it needs is that paint, which probably won't come till Monday now.
Nice prep job!
I think I'm going to glue the base of the tool in place on mine then reinforce the join with milliput. Should be more than strong enough that way, I think.
Watched episode 2 today, so glad that it's back on TV again
Loving these phone builds guys, they look great! When I saw the prop on TV I thought the magnetic pickup was the emitter of Tennant's sonic screwdriver but upon closer inspection, it wasn't. I did a double take though! Anyone else notice that Kryten's new legs are Cyberman legs?
I also have a question for you guys:
Do Chinese diggers get wasted?![]()

I've asked a few people, I'm sure we'll find out soon.
yeah, I filled my earpiece holes, too.
It's certainly going to take some solid method to secure that tool on top of the speaker.
The JMC logo I posted earlier is not the one used on the phone. it's just the first one I came across.
Not having access to vinyl sticker printing, the next thing for me will be to find a decent alternative method for the sticker.

I recall some good shots of labels in yesterday's episode. I'll get a screen grab tonight.
Looking forward to the grabs of the JMC logo.
In the meantime, here's another reference pic of the phone, flipped and tweaked a bit from the earlier posted screen grab:
