I received both guns over a week ago and not very impressed ,however thinking of cutting them both up for spare parts.......lol.........I would love to have someone make parts to make a real prop and just purchase a taurus 85 and build one .....someday it will happen......I will use these as references and a learning experience on resin castings once again ,heartbroken.......
This is exactly why I bought mine. I just wanted something with screen used lineage for dimensions. I guess that might explain why I don't care too much about these typical problems. I bought a taurus model 94, it's the same frame as the 85 but a 9-shot 22lr. It's #2 on my todo list, but I have to get my 3d printer done first...

The whole "Big Damn..." thing is a play on one of the conversations in an episode from the series. Fans started using it as a term to describe the characters as "Big Damn Heroes" (which is the original line) and then movie - "Big Damn Movie". This spun off into the other things that QMx is using it for now, including their ship model and the mini-maquette line.

    Anywho...
Yup, you got it exactly right. The episode was "safe".

Well one of the screws thingy at the front of the gun just snapped in my hand. And no, I didn't play with it (hard :P) Emailed QMx. A little disappointed here, especially since I'd decided to keep it.

Got both of mine last week, just posting some pics. One definitely had a bent barrel and the other was straight.

Both had the over-sized grips issue

    Both had bent knobs.

Not too sure what I want to do about the one that's bent. I can't be bothered to ship it back.

I wonder if it can be 'heated' at the base of the barrel and then bent downwards. I did it with my grey resin version, but not sure about trying it on this one.

Just returned mine along with the BSG Stein, the steins labels were off by like a half inch, the barrel warp on the gun was driving me nuts, they said they would hand inspect both items when they are returned. Have never returned anything, but the more I looked at them the only thing I could see was the small flaws :/

Prop pickens are not so great.
Kinda depends on how you mean. Licensed props are almost nonexistent, but take a look at the collection of Pennausamike for example and you'll see that there have been props aplenty over the years, made by fans to fill the void in which the license holders can't or don't want to (for various reasons). I myself have offered small runs of two of the shows firearms (one of them in both resin and all-metal variants) and a bunch of other stuff. The main problem is (as has been stated) the niche market of Firefly. Nowadays, getting a run of TEN props filled is difficult, let alone the dozens-hundreds that a company like QMx need to do to make it worthwhile.

I've yet to receive my pistol (and BSG stein that I ordered at the same time) but I'm dismayed that everything Firefly seems to be cursed for QMx. The Trek phaser was above-and-beyond for the price and this should have been the same. The QC chain seems to have broken somewhere... maybe it was just rushed to hit the release date or the Asian factory making them figured "small company not paying us lots, so we don't have to deliver quality" or whatever. Who knows. The Big Damn Serenity is gorgeous (if expensive) and is one of the best pieces in my collection and the Mule model was great too. If they could just stay consistent with their releases so their rep didn't take a major hit with every other release, things would be a lot better.

I'd consider returning 1, but of course I'd have to pay for shipping.
It's funny, it's actually the warped knobs that bother me more as they're warped on both. I bought 2 thinking I'd get lucky with at least 1 of them.
Not sure what I want to do about it.

Both of my knobs were straight (before one snapped off) but the barrel was twisted a little bit. I'm starting to believe that no perfect one exists (I'm willing to return it but I'm scared stiff about getting a worse one in the trade)

Is "not that bad" really the best that we can expect?

Where the pistol is concerned, probably.

To be fair, they do get some things dead right, but only when an artisan is involved on the project, as in the case of the leather goods of Karl Derrick and the print replicas by Geoffrey Mandel.

A recent quote from Andy Gore during an interview with 'Geek Shall Inherit' at Wondercon...

"I can remember being a collector myself and opening a box up and kinda going…eeeeuhhhh…you know? And it's like...I really want people…whatever they get…whether it's a ten dollar key chain or a $5,000 filming miniature…I want them to open up that box and say, "You know what? That's awesome. Yeah, that was worth every penny and then some"."

You shouldn't have to pay for return shipping, not when it was QMx's fault you received defective items. I'd suggest writing customer service and tell them the situation, if you're disappointed in any way.

I agree with Serenity. I just returned mine a few days ago, and they sent me a free Fedex shipping label to do the return. So you shouldn't have to pay for shipping. Wish my barrel had been straight the first time, but the customer service has been top notch so far.

Yea, they sent me a return FedEx label. On another note I just received my little dam heroes Serenity model and it is outstanding! Will never to be able to afford the large model, but this is about 13in long, crazy detailed, and looks great on display, they hit the nail on the head with it, wonder why they can't get a replica gun they done before right :/

That's what they say on the website (and would be logical for the price) Because if it's really 13 inches I'm buying at least 3.

    From QMx's site:

"QMx has recreated Serenity in 1:400 scale – about 8 inches long – out of dozens of parts, some as small as a millimeter. Her intricate design matches the Firefly TV series version of the ship in every detail: She was created using the show's actual CG files".

Well QMx got back to me, they're going to send me a replacement. Pleasantly surprised, top notch customer service. I will definitively buy from them again.

I sent their customer service an email. Looks like I'll be sending 1 of them back.

It's funny, I remember some people complaining about the Star Trek phasers, but I bought 2 of those and they turned out fine.

    Go figure.

I like QMX though, I really do. I also bought that set of 4 x Star Trek posters. Really cool. Still have to get them framed.

    Fingers crossed.
