    Aug 18, 2012 - "PCR" Stormtrooper helmet? #1

I just received an email from MiM about a "PCR" Stormtrooper helmet being released in late October.

Does anyone have any info by chance?

    Stormtrooper Episode IV PCR Helmet

    Thank you,
    Brandon

PCR stands for Precision Cast Replica. Its basically an idealized stormtrooper helmet. It has all of the assymetry and other imperfections cleaned up. They have already released this in ESB colors and a Sandtrooper version. The ANH coming up is the same helmet, although I thought I remembered seeing it with curved rather than flat lenses some time back. I have the ESB version and for what you pay, it isn't too bad.

That's weird. It looks like the MR CE face and dome (esp.ly the frown and wrong tbe stripes) with the MR prototype ears ie smaller but with obvious ear cap and 2 screws?

    http://www.starwarshelmets.com/MR_Stormy.htm

Maybe its just a generic pic? Or they fd a way of frankensteining a helmet together from old MR molds

For that kind of money you can get a nicer, albeit wonky style, helmet more akin to the ones seen on screen. You have to build it ur self though.

    Ah...and now I know.

Googled it and all I got was Polymerase Chain Reaction and Post-Consumer Recyclable and Post Conviction Relief.

Is this the one that RS Props is making? I haven't heard it called that but it sounds like what they were working on.

Been wanting a helmet like this for a long time!
Good to hear of RS Props as a possible second choice of vendors - I'd rather not deal with the first one.

If you want accuracy, this is not the one to get. The PCR is meant more for someone who may want a stormtrooper helmet, but not want to shell out alot of money for it. I recently bought the RS Propmaster one and, not only is it an extremely accurate helmet, its also got the pedigree of coming from an original screen used helmet.

All these negative comments is making me think that maybe I should cancel my order for this.

if you really like it, don't mind its lack of screen accuracy and really want it and its your budget limit then you may be happy with it but its not a very good reproduction. Its merely a likeness. Fan made buckets come up for sale in the Junkyard often and they are so much better! I picked one up here a couple of months ago for $175 shipped... typically you are going to see $250 to $500 for a screen accurate stormtrooper helmet... just so you know how much to have in reserve when you find an accurate replica.

I think I'll cancel the order and keep an eye out for one in the Junkyard. If I decided to go with a kit what are some good recommendations?

RS Prop Masters or join the FISD as quite a few finished buckets hit their junkyard, tutorials abound and connections for DIY is listed there too.

Yes there is rs props which is like the new flavour of the month. It is lovely, but out of my price range at the moment. But there are loads of options. In the 100 to 200 bucks range theres AP, ATA, CAP-W etc. All share a common lineage and have links to a screen used lid; albeit several times remived now.
