Whole lot of bleeping going on. I've been looking for a decent video on this. Gel coating, not bleeping.

Glad the bleeping is leaving its mark I would say there's easily three times as much footage that was NOT used in the video, which is kind of tragic as there was some pretty good banter going on there between E-Wan and I. Sadly, one of my primary concerns with videos like this is run time, and I try to be as economical as possible with the footage. Tell the story in as little time as possible.

While I know that there is usually more than one way to do things, I always thought a gel coats were only sprayed on, so I figured I'd never get a chance to try it out. Turns out I've already utilized the the gel coating technique while fiberglassing! It's always fun to learn something new, even if its someone else's approach.

Great Video! I'll surely stay tuned.

Yup, there are definitely a million ways to skin a cat. For example, I've NEVER sprayed a gel coat! Craziness!

Part two is up now. Link in the first post.

Please note, I have about ten minutes of footage where we riff on the "pump/squirt" part. Maybe I'll include those on the DVD. :P

That was a really fun way of presenting the material; I enjoyed it a lot! Hell, even I got excited as you were pulling the mold off!

Thanks for that, Matt! I've never done fiberglassing before, but after watching that video I feel like I could get started right now.

Cool video. Any suggestions on how to do something that would be too narrow to get the brush in there? For example, a horn. I have a mask project coming up that has a few horns on it. I'd probably do them separately and glue them on after but I'd love to hear suggestions for a better way. I'm trying to avoid having to do them in two halves and having lots of extra work fixing the seam, or wasting a bunch of resin by making it solid.

Juntari, you could slush cast it with resin, then fill it with expanding foam.

Great tutorial Matt. What about loose fiberglass. Any reason to use that at all?

Great tutorial guys! If you don't mind me asking, where did you happen to source the gelcoat from?

Awesome videos- subscribed! Very clear and informative presentation without being burdensome or boring- looks like you guys were having fun. I've never done a gel coat before so that was cool to see.

I've done composites work before but I've never used epoxy resin with CSM as I was always led to believe that epoxy resin wouldn't dissolve the styrene binder like polyester resin does. Obviously that didn't seem to be a problem here. Any additional info about that?

Great video, but Am I the only one that started laughing hysterically once all the bleeping was happening?

Speaking from experience, that part cracks me up every time I watch it. And I"ve seen it like ten times at this point. I dunno, there's just something A LOT funnier about bleeping out curse words than actually hearing them.

Thanks again for all the support, folks! I'm really excited about the number of hits these videos are getting. Please share them on your facebook page, your blog, wherever you think there might be people who want to see them.

And let me know if you have suggestions about future episodes too. There's TONS of stuff to cover!!

Just watched this and it's awesome. I will be attempting something similar soon so it was great to see you show it step by step, the bleeping cracked me up aswell.

To make the fiber glass quite thick can you lay a few sheets...let it set and then lay more or does it all have to be laid in one go. I've heard that you can't lay fiberglass over another set once it's dired cause it won't stick?

Have you done a vid on slush casting yet Matt?
