I have the story in digital format.
    No problem at all there.
I do not know your source for bronze casting.... but i have a jewelery shop here and can produce a solid bronze auryn for less than 10.00
and prototyping equiptment to make the corners as well
I fugure the metal for the book should come to 25.00 or so total.
It would be nice to keep the costs down as low as possible.

I think we were hoping Vash would step in an offer one... His wife (I believe) custom made one that is actually really nice. There's a shot of it here:

    http://www.therpf.com/showpost.php?p...4&postcount=42

I'm not sure how big it is compared to the screen used book (and if it would be too big/small for whatever size is decided on for the replica book...)

The book one is one color, like a solid piece of bronze, and does not have stones in the snake's eyes.

I sent an offer to vash a short time ago but have not heard back.
Still it has not been that long and I have high hopes.
It would be nice to have a set of credits to go with what could be a really groovy book.
Plus i have some of their work and it is top notch.

If I made the Auryn myself, I'd be happy to let you guys use it for this project.
However, my wife sculpted this, so I'll have to see if she's willing to join in on the book.
She was mighty upset when folks started recasting her Auryn a while back, so she's really possessive/protective of having others cast it.
But I'm sure I can persuade her

As for myself, I'll be happy to help as much as I can.

By the way, when the designing of the book pages gets underway, don't forget the snake borders on the top and bottom of each page.
I believe the image in the middle of the top page is the page number, while the bottom is a circular design.
In addition, the edges of the book pages are rough cut.

Like I mentioned, I'd love to get one of these books myself

Here's another photo of the book. I think it's just a light-brown colored leather...

You can also see the red and white bookmark strips coming out of the bottom of it...

My screencaps were a bit dark, so those pics were lightened, but here's one without any adjustments.

Will the real book be as thick as the movie book? or will it need blank pages.

I think it would be fairly easy to do the pages if you can get the top and bottom scrolls right. You could put greeking in everything else and just copy enough pages. The thickness and size would be the only important part. The cover details can be made with all the talented guys here.

I'd really be interested in a copy of this, either blank or the original story. Here is a hi-res pic from the import Blu-ray.

Well, whatever they use on the cover of 'high-end' (or old) hard-back books... It's definitely got a texture and look like morocco leather, or some kind of leather used for books. I suppose it could just be a vinyl or some kind of imitation leather. (What do they use on books these days?)

Keep in mind, the book is supposed to be an antique, so real leather of some kind would probably suit the look of it.

I agree that leather would be ideal for the book cover.

Anyway I drew up a guide to sculpt the corner pieces:

Again, this is just a guide, the depths and thickness will come when it gets sculpted.
I scaled it to the Auryn (approx. 3" circumference) and it's about 3.25" on the two sides and approx. 4.5" on the longest side.
With these sizes, I drew it up and the scale of the book would probably be around 11" x 14".
Don't know if I'm right, but looks good to me.

Okay, found some stuff in the second movie (just scanning through it quickly). It's obviously a different prop (the pages are cut smooth, that gives it away immediately), but if we want to try to incorporate both versions into one book:

I'd stick with the design of the first movie as much as possible, but in the second movie the Auryn is removed from the book at the beginning, leaving a pressed pattern in the shape of it in the leather. If we wanted to try something really crazy, we could try putting a piece of metal (or magnet) in the book cover itself, and then put magnets in the Auryn as well, so you can remove it if you want... Probably overkill, but it sounds cool.

The first two pictures show this.

The second two show the pattern of the endsheets (with the first one being brightened up a bit...), and also the little sticker that gives the name and address of the shop were Bastian gets the book (presumably in both films...)

The next two pictures show two different chapter starts with the huge dropped capitals that I assume start each chapter, and the artwork at the top/bottom of each page. This artwork is different than the first movie, so I don't think we should worry about it.

The last image is the only real piece of artwork in the book that I noticed will zipping through the movie.

Thought I'd post those, just in case...

Marbled end papers and illumination sounds really cool!!!!
Also that sticker woud be pretty awesome.
I can start the wax original for the corner brackets, but i dont want to dominate in any way if others are want ing a stake in the project.
Vash big thanks on my end.

Its probably a good idea to combine bits from both books. Take all we can from the first book and any missing details (such as the design of the end pages) can be sourced from the second book. What about the pictures from the second book? Could be useful in padding it out abit! Loving that sticker though, what a great piece of detail!

    @Vash: great start !!

After some search I also found the original german version as pdf.
As a German I really like the idea to have the book also in its original german version

The movie was filmed in the 80's at the munich moviestudio named "Bavarian Filmstudios".
I visited the studio as a child an dhad the luck to sit on Falcor and to fly
    with him (bluescreen )

If I can help you guys - just contact me, it would be a honor for me.
