Nerf "Vera" build. (pic heavy)

Greetings everyone.
I'm new to the RPF and have been inspired by the many amazing builds.
I know this isn't an actual movie prop but a con-prop so forgive me for posting this among all the talented work here.
I have been working on completing my Nerf Vera and wanting to post pictures.
I waiting till enough work was done so that you could see decent results.
First thing was finding a Nerf Recon 6.
Ebay and $30.00 later I bought a box of 8 Nerfs with accessories.
I knew this would be a "close enough" prop so I didn't want to spend a lot of time on it.
Here is the Recon set up I choose.

I wanted to keep her name from the Joss Whedon Verse so I call her VI ( Vie) after Felicia Days character on Buffy.
Plus its the first 2 letters of Vira.
I decided to carve the Nerf Logo into "VI" her name.
I know its not screen accurate but hey its a Nerf, it never will be.
This project is a con prop and I wasn't worried about repairing the fireing mechanism if it fails so I sanded off Nerf logos and putty filled all holes.
I will glue it back together when finished painting.

My biggest project was to make an Ammo clip.
We have a bunch of unused plastic at work so I began getting ideas.
I machined a pocket in the end so the Nerf clip would still be useable.
Unfortunatly this makes the "ammo clip" huge and heavy.
Future plans for a smaller non working clip are brewing.

I machined two pockets to reduce weight and make an place for the ammo.
I used some metal conduit pipe cut at 2 inches for ammo. Painted up like brass they fit right in the top pocket.
I machined a window and pocket into 1/2 thick sheet of plastic to hold the ammo in place.

A little paint, glue and studs and here is the end result.

Silencer.
I made the Barrel/Silencer from 2 plastic rods.
They are machined so they press together then slide into the Nerf barrel.
To mark the silencer I traced a circle then marked lines around the edges.
I set my peice on the circle and drew starter lines.
I then used a square to draw all my lines for drill holes.

I drilled the silencer then used a triangle deburr tool to elongate the holes.

I sanded everything very well with 240 grit and used a couple light coats of primer.
All paint used was Rust-Oleum brand or Testors model paints.

Eventually I would love to replace the Nerf barrel with a more grooved block style.

Vera almost finished

I didnt like that little flip up site on the end of the barrel so I cut it off.

I end up painting the solid parts of the tailstock the "Hammered metal".

Ammo:
I used conduit tube and plastic for the ammo, then painted them up.
I made the mount to fit into the buttstock .
I counterbored pockets into the mount so the ammo will press down into the hole.
That will help hold the ammo in place.

The only problem is the ammo interferes with the line of sight.
On the real prop the ammo is mounted down out of the way.
Until I fab a new stock I will probably just make a block mount to move the sight up and to the side.

This quick little project keeps growing.
I just cant stop nitpicking on little details.
A few more tweeks and She'll be finished. ( for now )

Re: Nerf "Vera" build. (

Wonderful build. Your inspiration is now MY inspiration, this one is definitely a project I'm going to attempt. Keep up the great work.

wicked job there matey and it wouldn't be hard word work to change the nerf logo into the word vera if someone wanted to great inspiration

Thanks guys.
I was motivated by all the awsome talent on here so if I can pass on info to inspire someone it is worth the work.
I thought about making the Nerf Logo into Vera but wanted to give her an original name.

I also added more info to the post on how I made the silencer .

My next big project will be the Lematt conversion into " Boo".

Looks great. I am trying to get motivated to begin my vera. I just finished my all metal boo. Seeing your work makes me think maybe I can do it.

Holy cow that's awesome! You've definitely inspired me, I just ordered the Nerf gun today, and I'll be following what you did very closely!
