Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
Here's another entry from our maverick competition:
![]() Unfortunately it's looking like most of the competitors have dropped out. They still have 2 days to do the minimum required so hopefully some of them get off their butts...

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
I didn't even realize there was one! I have a maverick sitting around the house right now actually. I'll just be checking that thread out right now.
Edit: Could you link the thread? Can't find it to save my life. It's a busy weekend since I have a birthday to go to and the Harry Potter midnight show tomorrow, but I can probably whip something up. |

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
Indeed, if I had anything besides empty pockets I would totally put it up for a prize. Unless somebody wants a bunch of dismembered (sans rubberbands) vintage GI Joes. I was planning on hitting up the local thrift stores again this weekend so if I can find some stuff maybe I can put up some Nerf guns for prizes. I'd be down for that if somebody wants to organize a contest. If not then I'll post in the thread when I have a decent catalog of guns to use for a prize.

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
Actually, I had a problem with that as well (for certain screw holes). I ended up buying a cheap dollar store 3/16" (.187") driver, and turning down the diameter to .165" for the first 1" of the shaft (just used a belt sander and a steady hand). Or you could just buy a 5/32" (.156") driver (if you can find one), but it will probably cost you more than $1.
Also, here's something I finished last week (removed the AR, and added an o-ring and a custom brass barrel) ![]() I didn't do any detailing yet, as I just wanted to get it "serviceable". Shoots level 30-40' (better if shooting from upstairs), and easily arcs 60'. |

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
I might be having some issues, and need advice.
I'm working on a clear Maverick today, and I'm using Krylon white primer. I took the maverick apart, soaked all the parts in porple power for an hour, rinsed them well, and dried them outside. its quite sunny, and probably 80 degrees. The can says to wait 10 minutes to dry, but I waited a half hour. I then covered the parts in krylon paint (not wanting to have an issues mixing brands)The primer seems to almost be like flour on some of the parts, and in some places it is not sticking and just comes off on my hand, along with the paint! Has anyone ever had issues with krylon white primer on this type of plastic? I'm not quite sure what I can do to salvage this mess... I'm leting the paint cure longer, so see if maybe that seals it somewhat. The plan was to take a clear green maverick, paint the orange innards flourescent green, and add lights as a green lantern cosplay prop. I've never had issues with primer ever before, but wanted to make sure that the paint stuck to the plastic. I suppose if the paint job goes south I can soak everything in brake fluid to remove the paint, and try again. Impatiently waiting.... |

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
Hi everyone, I'm pretty new here and just finished reading through this entire thread and I have to say that there is some pretty awesome nerf mods and repaints on here! I have been contacted by a guy not long ago who wanted me to modify and repaint a buzz bee double shot nerf-style shotgun (photo here --> http://tinyurl.com/3r6r86s ). I finished the thing yesterday and wnted to share it with you, here it is. It was inspired by the boomstick form army of darkness :P

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
I used a dremel with a little grinder wheel to carve the plastic just a bit to simulate the texture of wood, it's the paint-job that really make it stand out

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
Excellent job on that wood simulation!
Question, guys. When working on nerf mods, do you always worry about retaining functionality, or do you in some cases abandon that for form? I'm thinking it would be better for my mods to gut any working innards, and just go with additional lighting instead. Last edited by Gareee; 07-18-2011 at 03:53 PM. |

Re: Nerf Gun Props? YES!
All depends on what you want the gun for, shooting or show?
Most of my mods can not fuction because of the extensive modding. |

Hmm, that sucks, never had that problem before...it sounds like you didn't get all the bath off or something. Was it a humid day? Humidity can mess with primer and paints. I use Rustoleum brand paints myself and have not had an issue with them. |

I'd also say it reacted with the chemicals you sprayed on. It's possible the stuff is still on the surface of the plastic so you might just bite the bullet and sand down the gun surface properly and then try the paint again in a small area and see what happens. The primer should not act like that unless it's really old or wasn't shook for the two minutes they suggest. It really does help, as does keeping the paint "warm". the paint lays on the surface better.Good luck and don't give up hope. Worse case is you have a paint mule to try out new colors on when you don't want to mess up on a 30-50.00 gun ![]() Brian |
